My monitor has been flickering at refresh rates above 60Hz ever since I moved to my new place. I've tried isolating the problem and have basically determined that it's the room that the monitor is in. I've tried the monitor in a different room in the house and it doesn't flicker there. However, this computer is confined to my room. I can only assume that it is a power problem specific to that room/circuit or it is some other environmental issue that is causing it to flicker.
I did some searching online and found that this type of problem often has to do with something called magnetic power line frequency field interference. It has something to do with the frequency of the power coming out of the wall outlet and it being at a frequency of 60Hz which some how interferes with the monitor when it runs at refresh rates other than 60Hz. Apparently, I shouldn't experience flicker at 60Hz or any refresh rate that is a multiple of 60. I tried 800x600 at 60Hz and 120Hz and found that there was no flicker as there was at resolutions that were not 60 or multiples there of.
I've tried a lot of things to try and eliminate this problem. I've tried different outlets, I've tried the monitor with a different video source on a laptop, I've tried the monitor at different places in the room. I've tried plugging the monitor directly into the wall outlet. I've made sure no other devices are interfering. I've tried 2 different monitors. I still get the flicker. Its driving me nuts. The only other thing I can think of is to run an extension cord from another part of the house and see if it still flickers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
