I have an older monitor, that is getting some green hapening down in one of the corners. It does not have degauss, and I was wondering whether anone knew how to get rid of it?

I've seen people fix screen problems fooling around with magnets before. On my older monitor, the colors would go screwy and fade out, but then it would kick back in again.

The same thing happens to TVS and projectors. Probably not much you can do, and it might be a sign to get a new monitor.

A couple things to try:
Move it around the room and try facing it to the North/South/E/W
Turn it fully off overnight and then when it turns on in the morning some monitors automatically degauss.
Any speakers within a few feet of it?

Go to your local TV repair shop and ask to borrow there Degauser. All it is, is a loop of wire that plugs into the wall socket and then you put it next to the screen and slowly pull it away. You can make one of these if you have enough wire. I havent tried it but you may be able to use a coil at least as large as the screen and use 12 volts AC.

Thanx.. so far.

It got given to me, and has a nice dot pitch, and I don't really want to have to buy a new one soon. When I first got it, the picture was't wide enough, so I fiddled on the inside with the settings, and got it wider, but then the magnet thing happened, so I reset it, and it went away. Then a few nights ago, I sat it on top of a speaker for better position for dvd viewing, and when I put it back, it was there... and now it won;t go away 🙁

Was the speaker a typical home stereo speaker? If it was you might of burned the image or something like that. I don't know if you can fix that or not. You might want to try and get one of those degausers. We had a 35" and when they installed it the installers used one of those to clean up the picture. Good luck!

It can also be done by placeing a magnetic field exactly opposite of the one used to create the distortion in the same place in relation to the screen. Needs to be a comperably powerful magnet though.

I've had some luck using an automobile speaker magnet. Near the screen and moving it away......or, use near the screen in a swirling pattern.

I went and saw my local tv repair person, and he saod that all monitors have a degous coil in the back of them, basically just warm it for a while, and them fully unplugg and leave away for a day or so, and it should degauss itself.

I was about to say, that it has been around 24 hour stretches when not used and not fixed, but then I remember it is permanantly connected to an ATX case, and thus always has power through it

So I will try that tonight, and maybe use the ancilliary monitor tomorrow, and see if that works

cheers

You can use a strong magnet to fix it if it was caused by a magnet. I used a magnet from a hard disk.
