MagicJack: Yay or Nay?

I have two landlines coming into my house. The second one is in my home office, which I use for my fax machine. It is infrequently used, but it's there for convenience. Occasionally, the handset is picked up to make a phone call.
I pay AT&T about $35/month for this line. This got me to thinking that this thing called MagicJack might be a smart move to save money. Anyone with first hand experience using MagicJack? I'd appreciate your opinions. Thank you.

Not sure if you know this or not but MJ requires the phone to be connected through USB to a PC with internet. Any problems with PC or internet can bring your phone down. Same with bandwidth issues, if your using too much then the MJ will start to sound funny.

And will the MJ work with a fax machine?

Complete crap.

Call somebody that has one, and have them do some downloading while you are talking to them.

I always had great voice quality with Magicjack, especially once I set the service to High Priority, however I could never get it to work for faxing or with my Dish Network setup.

My experience with majicjack was bad. If I were setting up a 2nd line to be used infrequently, I'd look into a pay-as you go plan. These cost a few cents per minute, and there is no monthly fee if you don't need a (inbound) phone number. I use this same setup with callcentric for a second line and it costs me next to nothing. An inbound phone number adds a few dollars per month.

Magicjack is no different than Skype or google voice, except it lets you use a real phone hooked up to a pc. (and apparently it is possible to hook a phone up to a mic port)

Except you have to pay for it. Google voice you can do all for free.
