I have acquired a bunch of cards from my brother's old collection with the goal of selling them. If I remember correctly, they are from Revised, 4th, 5th Edition, or Ice Age sets. I remember back then that some of the cards were valuable but I have heard that most of the rare ones from back then have been re-released. Does anybody know if there are any cards of value in the sets or perhaps if there is some convenient downloadable program that catalogs cards and provides price information? There are a lot of cards and I have no knowledge to gauge their worth in the game or to collectors. Thanks.

Me too. I never even used those--nor Pokemon cards (my age was still one digit when that came on the scene in the US). I'll get rid of them sometime or another by whatever means.

Same here. :D

Started just after 3rd edition was ending and quit around weatherlight (something like that :D).

They started to release 1 expansion a month it seemed and it got to expensive to stay with it during my "kid years" :p.

Your time is far too valuable to spend it on that. I'd be happy to come get rid of them for you and free you for more important pursuits.

Just do a google search. But I'd beware if you have any especially rare cards, I had noticed I still had my Black Lotus card (which is a special card, and i wont mention why), so I had asked a going price on the forum and I got scrutinized and bitched at hardcore because they thought I would try and sell it and rip someone off. I guess there are a lot of ripoffs over magic cards online.

it's not worth anything

the only cards worth anything in those sets are like dual lands, and a few other cards here and there

the only cards with money are the older super rares, and the newer rares. oddly enough, prices haven't fluctuated much at all in the past like 10 years

I played magic since Antiquities, and stopped buying cards back when Weatherlight came out. The friend that got me into the game still buys new cards. The only thing I dislike is that most of today's cards are overpowered compared to the time before Ice Age.

I once created a dynamic webpage that would allow some one to build a deck and print it out.

I stopped right before mercadian masquerades. The artwork just went to hell all across the board and if you wanted to compete, you HAD to get the latest sets cuz they kept phasing out the "older" ones. Plus you sometimes had to look back and realize the gargantuan waste they were when you had hundreds of the same common. I remember when I quit, I fanned out all my phantasmal terrains and went "dammit!".

Yeah, I am too old for this. I just recently sold 30 cards for $150 on eBay and I'm having a collection auction going. The best place to see the prices is on eBay's completed items option.

This website: crystalkeep.com/magic tells you the rarity of the cards. They stopped updating it a while ago, but it still has the database of the old cards.

Thanks for the input. Maybe it would be best if I just spend a couple hours cataloging the cards then post the list in an ebay auction and see what happens. It would probably save time rather than trying to look around and find out what a card is worth. Someone mentioned double lands. I think I remember we had one of those.

I sold my black lotus for $450 each, I only have two. I guess I should've kept them.

I got out of Magic when the 4th edition was released. I started at the very begining of the game. I got out of it when I realised that they were going to release a storm of expansions and try to make the game as wide spread as possible. My Icy Manipulators were rare and sought after cards before they we reprinted and made uncommons. I came out ahead with my investment in the game.
Same with The Star Wars and Star Trek card games too.

Me too. I had mostly Alphas and Betas, quite a few Revised and only one pack of 4th.
I got out and dumped the cards. Most of them would be worth some serious cash to a nerd.

You might get lucky with dual lands, everything else is probably out-dated crap you can't use in most tournaments.

Edit: My AT name = MTG card. :Q

I was never geeky enough to set foot near those things, but my last roomate was trying to sell a couple thousand of them. He didn't make much on them, but try cardshark, that's where he sold most of them. Just sell all of your commons for $5 or something.

Man, I want to play some M:tG. Haven't played since I was a freshman when the local card shop closed :(
