COHASSET, MINN. -- Sitting in a petri dish, the mound of black powder doesn't look capable of being the long-awaited miracle that can curb acid rain, smog, energy shortages and respiratory illnesses.

But it is, according to those who developed it and those who have seen it work in smoke scrubbers. They say it will spare air, lakes and lungswhile allowing industry to burn more of the United States' most plentiful fossil fuel: coal.

EnviroScrub's independently verified Sox reduction numbers of more than 99 percent are "consistent with" the industry's best, and its Nox numbers of 96 percent are much better, said George R. Offen of the Electric Power Research Institute.

Carlton said that numbers recorded since the independent tests show reductions of more than 99 percent of both pollutants, and that independent vertification of them will occur soon.

If this stuff is real, this could make coal fired powerplants very enviroment friendly. Hope this stuff is real since we have lots of coal here.

Very cool. You don't see too many inventions/discoveries that are so far ahead of the status quo like this one.
