Was wondering if anyone can help? I need to scan the pages of every single page of every single issue of magazine my wifes company ever issued. I need to be able to put the pages on CD and to be able to search for certain articles fast when needed. I have a scanner and burner. what software if any would you recommend?

thanks

i'd say for large volumes of scanned material that adobe acrobat would be your best bet. either you can buy acrobat, or i think you can scan directly into photoshop and save the scans as .pdf files....

if you have a large library of acrobat files, you can add headings to them all and create a "menu" that is clickable with your mouse that will take you directly to each scan...

although, now that i think about it, i think you DO need adobe acrobat to be able to make the menus. but it sounds like it may be worth buying it for what you want to do.

what soft ware?

you need a high speed book scanner (the kind used by record keepers) or some sort that automatically strips bindings and scans each page front and back automatically (like those copiers that you can put a stack of paper into)... they runn in the thousands

yeah, those professional scanners are not cheap.

depending on what you want, a simple flatbed scanner with a sheet-feed attachment can make it faster, and more automated. but most will do one side at a time, so...

when you scan, you are making pictures. you may want to run it through an OCR program (such as pagis pro) to make the text real text not a picture. this would enable text searching.

use adobe acrobat. proper formatting can enable searches and junk.

btw, if you have a cheap scanner, this task will kill the motor since it has to scan so much.

total cost, around $1000. i am not kidding.

If the company who published the magazines originally is commissioning this project, you may be in luck. Ask around and find out if any of the layouts were done on the computer and if those files still exist / were archived somewhere. Acrobat is able to work with most page layout applications to directly create files without scanning.
