Ok, I have been getting some crappy magazines in the mail for about the past 2 months and assumed them just to be crap mail that I usually get. Then I get a bill today stating I owe $172 to the magazine company.

I never ordered any magazines so can I do anything to get this solved? I already emailed the company and I am awaiting a response.

Has this happen to anyone before, and what did you do?

Call them and complain, and don't stop complaining until they cancel all your "subscriptions" and eliminate your bills. Do everything in your power to be as annoying to them as possible.

Well I technically dont have a phone right now. I have not needed one for a long time. I mostly use the internet to communicate.

Either way don't pay it. Mail the bills back to them with a sternly-worded letter if you have to. Pretty much anything is better than email if you want to be noticed.

They don't have your credit information or any proof that you did order it. Therefore, you can simply ignore them and they can't do anything to you. If they heckle you, it is harassment.

Translation: Your mint copy of "Fat Post-op Asian Amputee World, May 2009" was delivered to your nieghbor by mistake, so this is your coverup so that you can show your face at next month's PTA meeting.

Dont worry, we are all with ya ;)

Somewhere you gave someone an address and clicked an ok button without reading the TOS. I see a lot more crap like this happening. Went to the Home Depot site the other day and a window popped up saying I'd won a $500 HD gift card. When I read the TOS it said by accepting the gift card I was signing up for some service that would charge $10 a month to my phone bill.

Well I rather take care of it so I dont get harassed. I will email the bill back to them after making a copy of it and then try to borrow a friend's phone to call them up.

Solved. The magazine company just got back to me and told me they canceled the subscription and set the balance to $0. Pretty good customer support if you ask me.

Its happened to me before.

You need to put a note on it - return to sender.

My mom gets crap like that all the time, like "free books" followed by a bill if you don't return it.

It's scary how all these random companies you've never even heard of get all your information such as your name and mailing address.

Well I was looking on their site and it seems that you can order magazines without paying for them ahead of time. They will ship them to you and you pay later. It seems like a very good prank site so I am starting to think this was a prank from one of my friends.

This is almost as bad as how you can order 15 cases of boxes from USPS and send them wherever.

This is very common, just allow them to continue sending the mags and demanding payment, but never pay. They can't force you to pay becasue you never signed anything.

Some cellphone plans charge for incoming calls.

It's not nearly as bad you Brits who used to charge the receiver for mail. God that was a brutal system.

Call them and tell them you're not paying them at all. And then ask to be completely unsubscribed from their lists. They're used to it, trust me.

The Toronto Star is notorious for signing up people without telling them. Often these kids will come to the door and try to get you to sign up. When you refuse, they'll just ask you to write down your name on a page with other names. And if you do even that, they'll send you the fucking newspaper and bill you after a month.

One time, I got a call from the Toronto Star. Some woman started telling me about how they were giving it out free except for the weekend edition which was $4 or something. I said that the newspapers pile up and just get thrown out, and we've already tried this before. I said I wasn't interested. I spoke for like a good two or three minutes refusing her offer. This is what happened next:

Her: "Well you should try it again. I'll sign you up for it."
Him: "I just said that ---"

*click*

I immediately found their number from their website and called them. I informed them of what happened and asked to be removed from any and all lists they have. Lamest shit ever.

Write cancel on the invoice and mail it back to them. I've had similar issues in the past and it's always worked.
