anyone else get an invite?
I got an email a day or two ago inviting me to submit an application, and last night I got an email saying I'm in.
Just curious if any of y'all got in too.

i have a few friends who are in it and they said it is just terrible.

- poor interface
- buggy
- looks like a ps2 game

they said it reminded them of how bad Socom beta felt, which was terrible.

SOCOM? as in, the PS3 SOCOM, or the first PS2 version?

Depends on which SOCOM we are talking about. SOCOM for PS3 was NOT made by the usual SOCOM development team, Zipper, rather Slant Six Games has taken over the SOCOM franchise, at least at the current moment, Zipper could take it back up at some point. Slant Six made SOCOM: Confrontation, and is working on the latest PSP version, Fire Team Bravo 3.

Unless you all just didn't like the SOCOM games in general. I was never a big fan, but watching these videos, they seem to showcase better shooter mechanics, and the rest is on how everything is established. I'll find out tomorrow in my first play session.

I think the interface is just fine. I don't know what they're talking about. Even acting as a squad leader is pretty easy.

Buggy, yes. I will give them that. The beta is VERY buggy. However, it doesn't come out till January, so I think there's plenty of time to make changes. Plus, there are a lot of people giving great input in the beta forums.

Graphics aren't great, but they're not bad.

My main complaint is the limited amount of hours they have the server running (~6 hrs a day total).

It's not a groundbreaking game. As a FPS, it's pretty standard. But the 256 player thing is pretty cool, and the squad leader abilities are integrated nicely.

So I played the beta for about 2 or 3 hours yesterday. It definitely took some getting used to. I'm not used to playing on maps that big. It's pretty awesome to see that many people online in the same game though. That's pretty cool. The graphics are definitely not impressive, but they're not at all bad. As you get kills or complete objectives you get xp. Once you get enough xp you level up and get skill points you can assign to improve your performance, unlock accessories for your weapons or unlock new weapons.

It's pretty fun. I'll definitely play this some more.

Man, I remember people saying that about the SOCOM:Confrontation beta, too. Didn't turn out too well in the end.

It's too bad - I was hoping this would be an awesome game. Back to waiting for Starhawk...

I hope this game ends up being good. I don't care about the graphics so much as long as they are "good". THey don't need to be mindblowing. The large number of players really has me interested.

Heh, well SOCOM: Confrontation was buggy in beta right up to release. MAG still has a few months to go. If MAG stays very buggy right before release well...then I'd probably stay away from it.

side-note:

if they don't announce Starhawk at the Tokyo Game Show, I'm gonna be very upset.

I wasn't in the Warhawk beta, but I watched videos of it...and it looked terrible.

I loved the game when it came out, though.
