Its TigerDirect :( That 17in you linked to isn't all that great slower responce time, smaller viewing angle.

You know, for all the Tigerdirect bashing that goes on around here, I've ordered from them several times and have always gotten my items very fast and with no problems. While I'm sure there have been problems for people, I just mean that I for one have never had an issue.

Does anyone know how this monitor compares to, say, a Planar?

I think Proview bought MAG, or simply Proview make MAG now. I had 15 in MAG that need to sent in for repair and the address I sent to is Proview.

I want to kown is this 18" LCD good too, my freind wants to get one of this. I think the only thing that is missing is DVI.

I'm sure people have noticed that this unit (maybe all Mags??) have a one year limited warranty. Of course, what they mean by limited warranty can easily:

" ....be obtained by mailing a self addressed, stamped envelope to the address below and requesting the warranty for item number: M925-1804

TigerDirect.com
Warranty Information
7795 West Flagler Street, Ste. 35
Miami, Florida 33144."

Given my pedestrian income, I have a hard time spending $500+ for a monitor with a one year warranty. (Monitors and hard drives break more than any other components...not counting printers of course.)

Small word of warning. I always thought high of MAG but I am not sure about their LCD's.
I got a 15 inch flat pannel last year at the Thanksgiving sale at BestBuy. It looked nice out of the box. But I can't get a clear picture on it anymore. It lookes slightly washed out and the color is out of wack. tuning and hooking up different Computers has not helped.

I hear ya there, but with profits so low on computer hardware anymore, 1 year (and less, when a loophole can be found) is where everything is headed.

Seagate, Maxtor and Western Digital all revised their desktop hard drive warranties to one year, in drives shipped (from the manufacturers) as of Oct 1, 2002. The only IDE/ATA drive that I know of that has 3 years now is the 8meg cache WD drives.

I'm guessing that monitors will be next, although I sure hope they don't. LCD's are pretty fragile, at least compared with a CRT.

I'd stay away, cuz you probably could get a dell for about the same price, but with a better response time and DVI. DVI is one of the most important things on an LCD IMHO. Plus the screen is made by Samsung, one of the best LCD screen makers. Not to thread crap, just my pennies.

DVI is one of the most important things on an LCD IMHO.

So how many LCDs have you actually used? I have never heard this opinion from someone who actually used DVI v. those who have not. Most of them have usually read a few CNET columns from 1999 and called it a day.

I have used both extensively across many brands and LCD sizes and resolutions. The current difference bt DVI and not DVI is minimal in most LCDs and marginal in only some.
