Mafia 2 Confirmed - Updated - Trailer added

Let's hope they can make shooting and driving suck less 😉

I thought the shooting was ok. Not much worse than GTA. The shooting in SA was better than GTA3 and VC I thought.

Supposedly the game is going to be set in more recent times, 60's or 70's maybe, so that will make driving more enjoyable. But I gave Mafia props for making driving more realistic, it was only less pleasurable because of the time of the cars (late 30's).

It would be very cool if they could make the city a little more interactive, like GTA, but done differently, more realistically.

I always thought the shooting in Mafia felt very solid. It felt like you were really hitting your targets. The driving definitely sucked though, particularly the racing mission.

I just loved Mafia and was always hoping a sequel was made. I loved the atmosphere and didn't have an issue with the driving or even that race that everyone complained about. The shooting segments were great and controlled well and the story was a good one.

I wonder if they'll use the same time period as the original or maybe go ahead of time and make it a "sopranos" style theme.

I loved the racing mission, but then I am more of a racing fan.
In my latest replay, I overtook the first place guy coming off the last corner, and beat him in a drag race to the finish line to complete the mission. Loads of fun.

I did too. Shootin was great, I enjoyed the weapons and the handling. Only issue was the Tommy's recoil was really heavy; no idea how it was/is in real life, but it just 'feels' like too much. Not that annoying though since I used the Colt .45 more than anything.

Now driving... driving was very annoying. Routes were really long, cops were crazy about speeding and cars felt too "real"... It really felt like you were driving a 50 ton steel beast with poor handling.

San Andreas was significantly better than the previous GTA games in terms of shooting, but it was still too arcadey, which sucked.

I always thought Mafia had excellent driving, at least compared to the likes of Godfather where the car can turn 90 degrees in half a second and can't tip over or roll at all. The vehicle physics were excellent and you could do all sorts of fun stuff; tires could be flattened or shot out, you could ram your opponent into various walls and poles causing denting in the correct spots realistically, and aim for the fuel tank and blow them up. Yeah, the race mission sucked but that was due to it being nearly impossible unpatched and too easy with the patch.

Definitely looking forward to this one, I just hope they can do it right. It will be hard for them to release another game as good as the original.

I wouldn't mind them making cars with over 50 horses this time around.

I couldnt stand MAFIA taking almost an hour to get to my next mission.

The best action oriented game ever on a PC ever. The music, the atmosphere, the dialog, the gunplay, the driving(besides the race), the story itself, just a great package.

They bombed with Mafia for the console, let's hope they can bring back the magic.

WE HAVE SEEN THE MAFIA 2 TRAILER!

There's been a rumor about a Mafia 2 trailer recently and we can now confirm that the trailer does indeed exist because Subdogs.se has seen it! So far it is top secret and we?re not supposed to have seen it but we have anyway. It?s likely that the trailer will be shown at the GC, as has been rumored. Obviously a trailer is just a trailer but it is safe to say that Mafia-fans can draw breath and relax; Mafia 2 is indeed on its way. Let?s be really clear about this: We have seen the entire Mafia 2 trailer! Sorry, no pictures, but below is a description of what we saw:

Mafia 2 takes place in the fifties. The trailer shows beautiful 50?s cars with classic rock?n?roll in the background. It?s dark and somber in a gray-green color-scale with a thick atmosphere and black humor.

The first scene takes place in a low key restaurant where the Mafia boss Luca is having dinner with the goons Eddie, Joe and Vito. Luca is upset about a vegetarian he?s seen on tv the night before and concludes there is nothing better than a good steak. He looks at the others and ask rhetorically if they wouldn?t slaughter someone for a piece of meat. The whole gang laughs. The next scene takes place in a warehouse. A heavyset man is crawling on the floor, begging for his life, saying he has a wife and kids. Eddie stands over him and coldly states that he should have thought about that before. You see Eddie fire his gun and the scene ends. Last scene. The gangsters are riding in a car, Eddie is in the back, drinking whiskey and he?s obviously drunk. Joe says ?it stinks in here, did you throw up in the car?? and Eddie answers ?nah, it?s probably the fat guy in the trunk?. The goons get out and open the trunk, you only see their faces as they look down at the contents and go ?yuck?. Trailer ends.

1950's huh? I'd rather have seen the game set in the 60's or 70's.

Its official..Mafia 2 on its way!

Mafia 2 official page

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced that it will publish Mafia 2, a sequel to the original Mafia title that sold more than two million copies worldwide and helped popularize the gangster genre. Featuring a deep mobster-driven narrative packed with both behind-the-wheel and on-foot action, Mafia 2 is the sequel fans have been clamoring for. The game is being developed by Illusion Softworks, developers of the original Mafia title, for next generation consoles and Games for Windows®.

Like the original Mafia title, Mafia 2 immerses players in the mob underworld of a fictitious late 1940?s-early 1950?s scenario. Players will easily become engaged in the game?s cinematic Hollywood movie experience with strong, believable characters in a living, breathing city. By fusing high octane gunplay with white knuckle driving and an engaging narrative, Mafia 2 looks to be the industry?s most compelling Mafia title to date.

?As the original Mafia was a big success, we are excited to leverage the power of next generation console technology to create an all-new experience, while embracing the elements that resonated with the previous game?s fans,? said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. ?The ?wow? factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies.?

I can't wait!
