The other weekend was a long one, and payday weekend, so I got to work on the Supra.

Got the car washed, glazed, and waxed:

Made an appointment to get two replacements for some very worn tires:

And went for a very nice cruise:

Got a good number of photos too, check it out.

Changed the oil, bled the coolant, observed some blue smoke upon startup one morning, and noticed that a '91 MR2 Turbo has been sitting in the parking lot for 8 months. Thinking about calling the owner and seeing what his plans are...

Other than that, sorted a small-dollar to-do list for the Supra and made some progress on the big-stuff mod list.

Ah well, I thought it was pretty cool. Once I applied the glaze things got exciting - it really made the red pop out at you. What say ATG about a wheel dilemma I'm having?

I can get a 16x7, 17x7, or 17x8 of a particular style rim with them weighing 13.7, 14.6, and 15.6lbs respectively. Would it be better to get the lightest wheel, the wheel which can accommodate a wider tire, or the middle ground? I'm getting into autocross, recently I found a local group which organizes twice-a-month events in my area.

Thoughts?

If you're going to buy another one I'd upgrade to a JZA70.

Dont mess around getting another 7M.

USDM only got the 7M's with the MK3's, and MK4's are over-valued. From my research the 7M's are a viable platform for 400whp, so far the plan is to make that much power reliably.

Oh, I see...

JZA's were never sold here either, but people brought them in privately later on. We can do that cause we drive on the correct side of the road. :p

I forget that you yanks cant import from Japan. You must miss out on heaps of good shit. S15 silvias etc.

I've never heard of 7Ms making 400Hp reliably. On stock internals. They're notorious for being unreliable. They blow headgaskets running stock boost.

I've seen a fair number of 7M's running 400whp without falling apart. The trick to them is that Toyota improperly specified the head bolt torque at 45 ft-lbs, resulting in eventual headgasket failure. If you torque them to 75 ft-lbs with a new headgasket and prepared block/head, the problem is eliminated. Once 7M's start pushing 500whp forged internals become necessary.

Looks like you need a high speed buff instead of just glaze. Nice car though. I almost got one of these years ago. Still a car I would like to own.

I keep looking at that photo and thinking the same thing. I know part of it is reflections from across the street though, which is nice to see. :)

beauty! I like seeing a car like this well kept and cared for. Well done sir! There are a couple of older supras in my town, and the drivers think they are hot shit, but as soon as they step on the gas and that smoke comes out the back... yeeeeecccch! They are also all rusty and poorly taken care of. =(
Yours on the other hand. Gorgeous!

oh btw... did a Toll Booth bar hit the hood??

another thing you could plan to do in the future is paint the window trim pieces.

Thank you very much, I'm trying to get debt-free and also work on the car this year, it's tough. I should be free by the end of this year, and hopefully also make progress towards an early promotion.

I'm not really sure what happened with those two dents, they were with the car when I purchased it. I've been playing with the idea of a carbon fiber hood at some point, though the fender may just get some work done to minimize the dent. As for the trim pieces, they're plastic so I'd need to get something which adheres well while also polishing up well.

The seasonal rains have begun in earnest, so between the pine needles and water the Supra certainly has lost some luster. :(

Spring will be here soon enough though and with it will come perfect targa-top weather.
