The Chinese are all about knockoffs anyway. They let others do the engineering then they copy it. Some would say lazy, others would say shrewd. :p
Thats what they use to say about Japan, give them some time to catch up.

So, I'm not up on post-1980 cars, which ones have they copied?

Dude seriously that's no excuse. Anyone who drives on the road sees these cars every day.

I appears they're copying Toyota and Scion (also Toyota). You've never seen those big boxy things driving around? Looks like a cardboard box on a skateboard?

I've never seen a Yaris on the road. I think that the people who bought them are too embarrassed to actually drive them around.

And for a little piece of trivia, the guy that started Toyota was actually Chinese. He wasn't Japanese.

I don't think the Chinese give a rat's-ass about any legal department.
The tens of millions of americans who will buy their products is their legal defence.

im sure toyota will have something to say on the fron of that yaris/corrola a-like the front grill is almost exactly the same as toyota's new yaris with the big button nose and the corresponding semi-circular curve at the bottom. looks like they bred a yaris verso with a renault scienic

the orange car is pretty much a shameful copy of the fiat panda 4x4 with hints of suzuki SX4

they dont

they even CE mark steel sections/columns/rails when in actual fact they have no legal right to put the mark on the steel since they haven't got the inspectors in to give the accreditation. but they dont care..... its very probably good steel, probably better than what we make (company i work for) but you know, they technically arent allowed to CE stamp their steel (CE stamp is a Quality assurance type measure)

maybe the chinese gov jus doesnt want foreign cars to be sold so theyre all getting rebadged?

theres a merc CL/CLK in that thread too by a company called BYD (less thats the cars name) and basically its just a merc CL with a different badge

and further down.... nissan pick up with different badges. i think that must be the case, so they get sold under a home brand and keep the chinese in the dark about whats really out there.

im expectin a GWM veyron rip off soon....

oh apparently some of the cars are made under license

the first two are made under license with toyota, and the BMW 5 series rip of was actually co developed with BMW and uses a mitsubishi drive train made under licence. that car was also styled by ital design...... just goes to show you can polish a turd.

BMW actually own that company i believe so its no wonder it comes out lookin 5 series ish.

seems all they are doing is simply copying/making under licence so that they can make as much money as quickly as possible. starting a car firm from scratch and making fresh products from scratch that are all desgined and built in house would be to expensive and too slow.

they'll do this instead until maybe they get enough profits to have ago at something original.

As hilarious as I find the it that China is in such a great situation that they have the traditional superpowers by the nads, I also find it hilarious that ALL world auto companies are breaking down doors to get INTO that market... by any means necessary... including passing on their Product and Process talents through the "joint" ventures where the Chinese hold majority stake.

They are ALL cutting their own long term throats for short term gains because they fear each other getting a lead in China. Stupid. China is smart... lapping up all this attention and writing awsome contracts and learning everything they can.

That the other countries don't just band together and force China to play by the rules is hilarious. But then... these same countries also made up their own rules at the point of a rifle or canon a century or so ago... towards countries just like this.

What goes around comes around.

thought this quote on the other site pretty much sums up my sentiments.

cockinhell....

the dash board literally obliterated the driver

I actually yelled "jesus!" watching that. I like how the airbag deploys and then the entire steering column bashes the dummy's face in.
