MicroStar6163Pro/ P3 800. When experimenting with my FSB settings I must have accidentally set it at 133/33 when I meant to set it back to 100/33. I figure this is what happened because now I can't even get to the bios. The fans start up and thats it. Did I fry the cpu? Or is there a jumper setting I can change on the mobo?

Turn it off, unplug it and move the clear cmos jumper to clear for about 10 seconds, then back again to it's original position. Plug in, power up and it should take you back up, where you can get into the bios. You will have to restore all your settings in there.

Ok I have no idea what jumper switches look like so I downloaded the manual for my mobo. It has a section on setting SW2 and SW3 for bus speeds. It had a diagram showing where they are located. Only they are not there. I scoured the entire board even removing some cards so I could see better but still nothing jumped out and said "I'm a jumper switch!" Sigh* I wish I knew someone close to me that could show me what I'm looking for.

I found them. They were where it said. But they don't look like switches. They are little red things that look like something plugs into them. Next to them it says in tiny letters SW2 and 3. I don't see how they would move. There is a little metal piece inside so I guess that's what the pencil thing is all about. I'll shove a pencil in there and see what happens. By the way the settings for them are listed on the mobo so I can set them the right way while I'm there I think.

Hmmm.... Looks like you are a bit confused about the concept of jumper switch. It's not a swtich a such. It's just a small plastic "thing" like with 2 holes that you can put in the pins that stick out of your motherboard. The manual would tell you which 2 pins to "short" and you should put that jumper over those 2 pins.

I know I am not great at explaining these things but hope that help.

Yes you made perfect sense. I now see that there are two pins in each little plastic piece. I need to open SW2 so do I just remove the plastic thing? I see that it has a plate that completes a circuit when the pins are touching it. But weren't they touching it before? I have a feeling this is not the clear cmos jumper that compuwiz1 was talking about:p His solution sounded much easier but I can't find it or mention of it in the manual. I just figured with me having an old mobo it might not have that but I bet it does somewhere.

If you can't seem to find the clear cmos jumper you can always just remove the cmos battery for a minute, or so. Just unplug the computer and then pull out the cmos battery for a minute, or so. That should work and allow you to reinput the correct settings in the bios.

Just turn the power off and press on the F10 key and while holding down on the F10 key power up the system and continue to hold down on the the key till it boots (this puts the system to auto mode for the cpu setting) fix the problem from there (go into the bios).

I took out the battery and put it back, then turned it on while pressing F10. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the help; I learned a lot :)

Thx for the email Bartman. I just installed W2K today and it keeps not letting me respond because of unsecure something or other. Still working out the bugs:p
