As a side, did you guys hear about Houshmandzadeh complaining about his madden rating and boycotting the game.. I have never seen such a crybaby

I may be the only one, and apparently EA seems to think so, that hasn't played a madden game in a very long time. I don't see anywhere in the demo that shows the controls or wtf to do. I'm completely lost in how to play this game and look pretty damn foolish. What's the point of releasing a demo without a control map or tutorial mode? The only people that this would appeal to are those who already know madden and those people are fairly likely to buy the new game anyway. It sure as hell doesn't help potentially new buyers... especially with only 1 minute periods so I don't have time to figure it out.

I've been personally critical of Madden on this generation of consoles, but it seems like they're finally getting the little details right in Madden 10, and that makes all the difference in the world. The game still doesn't wow me, but I may just buy it this year.
That said, I still wish they'd revamp the series from the ground up again. I never particularly liked the NFL 2K series, but the blocking and receiver animations in that game were phenomenal.

That probably won't happen til the next console generation, given that the yearly release & development schedule doesn't allow the time for that.
The only consolation is that the lead developer this year said that his goal with 10 is to get it to where people no longer compare Madden to NFL 2K5.
The demo certainly does seem to be headed in that direction with the slowed down pace. So far it looks good, but the finished product remains to be seen.

The left stick moves your guy. You throw to the receiver you want by pressing the button corresponding with the giant button over their head. Not that difficult.

I'm sorry, but thats fucking pathetic. The gap between the amount of money they make off this game every year and the amount they spend improving it is still way too big.

Sadly, when the next console generation comes around, EA will increase the visual fidelity while taking out features, animations, and other little things here and there. Then, over the course of the next 5 years, they'll slowly add everything back and everyone thinks the game is just getting better and better each and every year.
This is exactly what happened with the switch-over from PS2/XBOX to PS3/360.

Ha sounds like Apple. Add basic features over the course of each update and play it off like they are adding something new and great.

I know this thread is a few days old, but I didn't want to start another so I thought I would bump it up. I did my pre-order at Gamestop after playing the demo, and I got the code for the Gamestop "Superbowl Rematch" demo. With the Gamestop demo, you get to play 5 minute quarters. I really think this game could be special -- the graphics are phenomenal and the game play seemed quite fun. Of course, I said that about Madden 08 and look how that turned out. :disgust:
For those complaining about the speed of the game (in this case, the lack thereof), I have heard that the game will have 5 speed settings to choose from and the demos are set to one of the slower speeds.
gocorps, make sure you are reviewing what the offense is putting out on the field before you call your defensive play. You may not have realized it, but the playcalling screen shows you what package the offense has inserted. When you're at the playcalling screen, look under the little replay screen (IIRC) and you'll see the package the offense puts on the field -- it will say something like 3 WR 1 TE 1 RB, 2 WR 2 TE 1 RB, etc. With that in mind and factoring in the down, call a defense appropriate for the situation.
