Madden NFL 10 Demo up on Live and PSN

PSN if you have the Gamestop code, that only went active today 🙁..nice of them to tell us right 🙂

Yep, that too. If you preordered from Gamestop you get access to the demo early.

I hope it feels as smooth as NCAA 10...i have madden 09, NCAA 10 seemed alot smoother to play. i actually enjoyed the 8 mins that i played. *mainly because i was able to score, and i cant do crap in madden hah*

Can't wait to play the Lions heh.. Im going to have it set on "rookie" to win any games, maybe I will just re-create Barry Sanders 😉

As a side, did you guys hear about Houshmandzadeh complaining about his madden rating and boycotting the game.. I have never seen such a crybaby

What a bitch. I'm sure EA will take a huge hit from his lone boycott

He's an idiot. They were talking about that on Mike and Mike and the WRs that have better ratings on the game are completely justified. If he wants a rating like Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald, then he needs to step up and perform like them.

So, did they change up how the online franchise works? Does it go longer than one season and follow a set schedule, or is it still the flex scheduling and all teams need to be human controlled if you want all teams in the franchise?

I may be the only one, and apparently EA seems to think so, that hasn't played a madden game in a very long time. I don't see anywhere in the demo that shows the controls or wtf to do. I'm completely lost in how to play this game and look pretty damn foolish. What's the point of releasing a demo without a control map or tutorial mode? The only people that this would appeal to are those who already know madden and those people are fairly likely to buy the new game anyway. It sure as hell doesn't help potentially new buyers... especially with only 1 minute periods so I don't have time to figure it out.

yeah man, i saw the same thing.. with the slow pace of 10, i didnt know what to do. i played it on both 360 and PS3. i noticed no super difference in graphics or gameplay

I've been personally critical of Madden on this generation of consoles, but it seems like they're finally getting the little details right in Madden 10, and that makes all the difference in the world. The game still doesn't wow me, but I may just buy it this year.

That said, I still wish they'd revamp the series from the ground up again. I never particularly liked the NFL 2K series, but the blocking and receiver animations in that game were phenomenal.

That probably won't happen til the next console generation, given that the yearly release & development schedule doesn't allow the time for that.

The only consolation is that the lead developer this year said that his goal with 10 is to get it to where people no longer compare Madden to NFL 2K5.

The demo certainly does seem to be headed in that direction with the slowed down pace. So far it looks good, but the finished product remains to be seen.

I'm sorry, but thats fucking pathetic. The gap between the amount of money they make off this game every year and the amount they spend improving it is still way too big.

The left stick moves your guy. You throw to the receiver you want by pressing the button corresponding with the giant button over their head. Not that difficult.

It's more complicated than that. How to I spin, hurdle, stiff arm, etc? What about audibles? Is there a sprint button as there used to be in madden games? All this shit would have been easily solved w/ a single pic of a controller with labels.

Lack of competition = lack of progress in football games

Sadly, when the next console generation comes around, EA will increase the visual fidelity while taking out features, animations, and other little things here and there. Then, over the course of the next 5 years, they'll slowly add everything back and everyone thinks the game is just getting better and better each and every year.

This is exactly what happened with the switch-over from PS2/XBOX to PS3/360.

Ha sounds like Apple. Add basic features over the course of each update and play it off like they are adding something new and great.

off topic: it should not have taken this long for me to be able to text and email in landscape mode on my iphone... there's no reason for why it took this long to include it

back on topic: Played it a little bit more and I'm getting a grasp of the game. I can dominate at rookie but can't do anything in pro difficulty. It seems like the defensive AI is plumb-fuck retarded in pro and I can't exactly babysit my entire defense to make sure they do stuff right.

Exactly.

It took them 5 iterations of madden for them to put referees back on the field.

What I wish EA would do, is to push the boundaries of this game in terms of realism and graphics. I know, I know, not everything is about graphics, but when you're trying to release a football simulation game, graphics become very important. You have games on the PC that do exactly that. I want the turf to look like turf, not just low res graph textures. Commentary needs to be more dynamic (I know it's not the same, but the commentary in UFC undisputed was fairly good) instead of recycling the same stuff year in year out, or at least have more than one commentary team.

Sidelines need to animated at all times with real players doing realistic things (O-line meetings, QBs talking with coordinators, etc). Blocking animations should be overhauled to make it look a little more lifelike. WRs are stiff and don't look natural at all. Defense is still generally stupid.

You get the idea, there's a lot of potential improvements here that they overlook every year. I think I'll be satisfied this time around, but unless something major happens, I know they'll be shipping the same game for Madden 11 with new rosters and tiny new features.

Oh, and a PC version please that matches or exceeds this consoles generation's graphics.

I know this thread is a few days old, but I didn't want to start another so I thought I would bump it up. I did my pre-order at Gamestop after playing the demo, and I got the code for the Gamestop "Superbowl Rematch" demo. With the Gamestop demo, you get to play 5 minute quarters. I really think this game could be special -- the graphics are phenomenal and the game play seemed quite fun. Of course, I said that about Madden 08 and look how that turned out. :disgust:

For those complaining about the speed of the game (in this case, the lack thereof), I have heard that the game will have 5 speed settings to choose from and the demos are set to one of the slower speeds.

gocorps, make sure you are reviewing what the offense is putting out on the field before you call your defensive play. You may not have realized it, but the playcalling screen shows you what package the offense has inserted. When you're at the playcalling screen, look under the little replay screen (IIRC) and you'll see the package the offense puts on the field -- it will say something like 3 WR 1 TE 1 RB, 2 WR 2 TE 1 RB, etc. With that in mind and factoring in the down, call a defense appropriate for the situation.

as long as they set a default speed for online...i know i could careless about single play.

if they allow different speeds for online play itll mess alot up
