Madden 2006/2005 graphical glitch.

in madden 05/06, i get weird banded textures on sidelines. did this on both a geforce2 gts and a 9800pro at various settungs. weird. is it a texture filtering problem? The sidelines look all banded until i get close at which point it looks normal. I'm playing now with a rock stable 9800pro with cat 5.8s and all set to max, 1152 x 864.
I've tried it with nvidia drivers on the geforce from 55.xx to 73 or 74.xx.
