I wish I could afford a console right now. But unemployment prevails. :(

Anyway, right now I've got a cheap, generic Microsoft Sidewinder that's not very precise. Obviously I'm looking to upgrade the controller when I buy the game.

What would you guys suggest??

I bought that wireless Saitek controller for my brother for Christmas. Pretty smooth controller except for the L/R buttons.

I have both the Logitech RumblePad and the Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power.

I prefer the Logitech because it feels better in my hands; much like the PS2 controller. I don't care for the button layout though and prefer the Thrustmaster because the layout resembles the PS2 controller the most.

I'd just go to Fry's or equivalent and buy a pad, try it out, and if you don't like it, return and try another. :)

You're gamepad is called a "Thrustmaster"?

I have a Gravis Exterminator (haven't tried it with Madden 04).

I've always used the Sidewinder for Madden. No pad out there now emulates the PS2 controller except the cheapo Gravis(it sucks, and doesn't have analog)....HOWEVER Logitech will have a pad out in a few weeks that should be perfect.

I need to buy this. PS2 pad is the best I've ever used.

Yup. You can buy a PS2 controller and a PC adapter, but that will cost at least $40 and the buttons don't map correctly. The Logitech looks like a winner.

Is it not possible to manually configure the buttons in the game??

It sucks. The d-pad is impossible to control in Madden.

Exactly. And with the new playcalling in 2004, the right analog stick is necessary to have!

Get a USB extension cable, and an XBox controller. Hack at the cables, match the wires, and download the Xbox controller driver. I use XCtrl. It's awesome.

Logitech RumblePad is nice, but I may have to check out that new GamePad when it comes out from Logitech. Sadly, doesn't look like it supports force feedback.

I use the Logitech Cordless RumblePad. It's not perfect, but the main complaint is the 6-button layout is (ergonomically) inferior to a simple 4-button layout.

Everything else is pretty good. I don't use the D-Pad for games, instead using the left analog stick. The battery life on 4 NiMH AAs is quite good. AFAICT, it doesn't interfere with any other 2.4 GHz devices.

ATOT Control Freak checking in ... :)

Right now the Dual Power is one of my favourites. It feels sturdier than a lot of the others - there's a bit of "stick" in the analog sticks at times. Make sure to give yourself a little dead zone as well if you plan on using the "push" function of the stick.
