No, thanks. I don't drive drunk and I rarely drive at times when people are driving drunk.

well yes if i buy a new car I'd assume it would be built into the cost of a car just like anti lock brakes and side impact airbags

Interesting that you compare it to a safety feature that's intended to protect the occupants of the car, not the people in the other cars. If they can come up with a feature that would repel drunk drivers from my car, and it was relatively inexpensive, I'd pay for it.

i think they should really push for this technology to be mandatory in all cars like a seat belt and airbags
Can I put software on your computer that will let me log in and browse your files anytime I want? You know, just to make sure you didn't download kiddie porn again.

if you can manage to logically link the two together I may just let you.

If you're not smart enough to link those two subjects, you're definitely not smart enough to demand control over my property.

There is a thing in this country where when you're innocent of doing something, you shouldn't have to pay a penalty for it. I don't drink & drive, and I don't want to have to blow into some device just to start my car.

Besides, those things don't work right half the time. A colleague of mine had to put one in his car, and half the time it just plain doesn't work and he can't go anywhere.

So thanks, but I'll pass

Wow, just...... wow.

I bet when the day comes that the government wants to install a CCTV system in our houses, you'll be the first to sign up, huh?

those were just two government standards that I threw out there. You know their are others that have to do with the general safety of everyone on the road. Everything from Tire tread specifications to those chips that limit the speed of a car.

just like any technology when it is in the early stages of adoption its is somewhat buggy, bulky and awkward to use. Then as it matures and is adopted by the larger population it becomes refined, smaller in size, more features and more reliable. You can place this model against any technology. So compare the cell phone devices used today to the zach morris cell phones that were out 15 years ago. They were limited in use. They were unreliable, awkward to use. Then as time went by everybody now has cell phones that are reliable nearly everywhere and have 1000x the features. See where I'm going with this?

If the highest encryption and security methods for computing can be cracked. THere is always a way around the system. But will it work the majority of the time >95% ......probably yes.

Wow what a selfish comment. It's all about YOU isn't it. As long as YOU are safe. I am sure you have family and friends that are driving at the times these drunk drivers are on the road or maybe even in the car with a driver who has had a couple too many.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

your logical is totally flawed here. If you are accused of rape as a man in this country your credibility and reputation is ruined and tarnished for the rest of your life whether or not you are found guilty. Accusation is all it takes. This is just one example of many where innocence doesn't mean you don't pay a penalty.

no my point here was that the technology is still premature for these devices today. But if they were to be adopted on a large scale they would be refined and perfected and would hardly be of notice to the driver of a car who is sober.

This is ridiculous...are they going to retro-fit every car in the country? Who's going to pay for that? If you go out to dinner and have 1 glass of wine is your car going to lock you out and leave you stranded?

No thanks.

And that's a good thing? You'd like to expand the idea of guilty until proven innocent? And I thought I'd seen all manner of fascists around here. This guy takes the cake.
