York University in Toronto, I'm sitting here at 14 cops cars go by tearing down the campus road. Later find out that there's a huge protest going on in the main building here over the inauguration, and they thought it was going to turn into a riot :brokenheart:

I hate the man, but come on, we're in Toronto.

Probably lots of americans going to school there? Bush's presidency affects everyone so I suppose protesting in Canada isn't completely without merrit.

Agreed, but the need for 14 cruisers and God only knows how many undercover cops is a bit ridiculous. Mind you, there are 55 thousand students here, so maybe I'm very wrong.

Hahah back before the war in Iraq they were out there causing trouble, too.

The funny thing is...a few days later GWB just went ahead and bombed the sh!t out of Iraq. (The part about people dying isn't funny; the part about the protestors at york not mattering IS funny).

I don't know why they do it. It only pisses off the students who are there to learn. I know when they did the Iraq thing and blocked the bus routes on Sentinel Road it only made me dislike them and their cause even more.

ONLY way people will give a damn about protesters in Toronto is if they start a fight and a hundred police come and arrest them. Otherwise they'll never make the news. They just want their 15 minutes thats all.

Hey, at least they accomplished pissing you off. That's worth a laugh...and nobody had to die for me to think it's funny!

I don't object to protesting as long as they do it orderly and in the field rather than blocking sidewalks and streets. I'd like to see some brick-to-head action the next time they pull that crap. All they do is waste our time and money. But hey, anything for their little feel-good cause of the day right? Who cares about the people who go to York...its all about us protestors

I agree, I'm not a huge fan of protests getting in the way of people trying to go about their business. I was more commenting on the idea that bombing the sh!t out of Iraq is funny just because it pissed off the protestors.

Now throwing bricks at someone making me late for class? That I might be able to get behind ;)

I'm not really serious about violence. I didn't agree with the Iraq war, either. I just think that there is a right way and wrong way to approach things.

Protestors at York by and large just cause problems for the students. No one takes the protestors serious. There is no profound moment of thought "A-HA! We can stop the war". They just stand around blocking legitimate uses of the school and facilities for no other reason than they have nothing else better to do.

Protesting at York? You do not pass GO. You do not collect $200. You make zero difference. No one cares what you are chanting about with your silly signs while wearing rainbow sweaters and knitted mittens & scarf with emo glasses. You lose 10 points. Go directly to class and shut up.

Want to REALLY help out in Iraq? Why not take a semester's tuition and fly there. Do some humanitarian aid or God knows what. Don't like GWB? Gather together people and go out, door-to-door... inform Canadians (if they will spare the time) why you think Canada should not deal with GWB. But don't stand in the way for the rest of us to live our lives. It is utterly pointless.

Exactly what are they protesting against though? I know it's Bush, but are they just protesting out in the open park not aimed at anybody in particular? What would have been cool was to organize a city-wide protest on the US Embassy.

Did they at some point stop teaching people to be CIVILIZED when they go to college?

Buncha weirdos.

Ah, so to get that they should start a fight (Translation: get violent on someone who has nothing to do with their grievance and has no power to change a damn thing).

Somehow I thought the word "Civilized" actually had a meaning attached to it.

While many Canadians do have an irrational obsession of the United States that is bordering on serious mental disease, you cannot really compare Bush to Martin.

The American leader is easily the single most influential man in the world and American policies are very influential upon Canada. Canadian leaders, on the other hand, are almost insignificant to Amerca as a whole as well as the rest of the world on a whole.

Americans won't protest Martin because he is simply insignificant. Canadians will protest Bush because he is extremely influential and powerful.

Actually, both countries affect each other to an incredibly significant degree. To say that the U.S is the mother of all importance to Canada and the world alone is simply ignorant, and just plain wrong. But it doesn't really matter here.

No, the US impacts the world and Canada far far far more than Canada impacts the US and the world. Canada is basically insignificant on the world stage while the US is a centerpiece.
