Mad Men... Why?

I cannot understand why this show is popular at all. I watched a good amount of episodes because the beginning was interesting at least. It just seems like the I'm watching a show written for people with no working memory or something.

First off, there's a huge amount of characters. The foci shift around every episode and nothing really happens to any of them that impacts the show in any way. After that episode, 90% of the time, the conflict/whatever is never brought up again. There is never any closure with the events.

For example: Helen Bishop - She was mentioned a lot in season 1. Betty has a problem with her. Then she disappears pretty much for good.

Betty - Hand tremor problem. Never addressed, magically disappears.

It's like all the characters are brain-damaged or something.

Also: January Jones is possibly the creepiest hot girl. No facial expressions ever.

Most of what you've identified are pretty minor things, I don't get the issues. But if you don't like it, then it's obviously not for you.

I guess I may just feel annoyed that pretty much nothing happens in many episodes and then they don't address anything from the past... or if they do, it's a single event instead of a concept.

I guess I'll stick to half hour sitcoms. I don't expect those to have any continuity so when they occasionally do, I am pleasantly surprised.

Next complaint: HIMYM

Rules of Engagement is worse.

Honestly I don't mind that show. Possibly because I saw the first few episodes and they set the bar on the ground. Season 5 is actually funny. I take that show at face value. They also don't deploy tactics that make the viewer feel stupid like HIMYM.

The thing that ticks me is that HIMYM still tries to develop the characters when they have been solidified a long time ago. Or add events that we should have known a long time ago and just basically present it like the narrator forgot a giant chuck of his life... eg the recent star trek 3 year episode...

not to mention the mother...?? Show needs to get off the air so we can all laugh at it for never accomplishing the goal.

oooh awesome ... another thread based on a topic that the OP has no interest in and wants everyone to know he is anti-something-popular, yet he is not interested in it at all and wants to discuss it!!!!

I liked seeing the 50's and the lifestyle that we were denied due to more progressive attitudes. The pitches for advertising products that I remember as a kid but are not really relevant these days. 50's women are kinda hot...especially that girl who is in Community now. That said, I stopped watching after season 2. After awhile, there is a been there done that.

Rules of Engagement is worse.

lol Hey now! That and Cougartown are the only broadcast comedies I watch.

It's like having options instead of stocks. I may not want it to do well. Doesn't make me not interested in it.

It's a vivid and realistic portrayal of a time and place in American history that, while relatively recent by some yardsticks, now seems ancient and alien, and it is surpassingly well done.

That, Roger, the babe with the elevated artillery, and, yes, Don Fucking Draper.

Stop being a douche Purbeast, he asks a valid question. I liked the first season of the show, but wouldn't watch it now if it weren't for my gf wanting me to watch it with her. I WANT to really like it, and I don't hate it, but I do find myself wandering off to do other things around the house and semi watch it in the background now.

Pretty much this. I love Mad Men.

I find her ridiculously attractive.

So do I. She is insanely hot.

Truth.

I'm kinda disappointed she's been sitting out a few episodes this season.

Are you though, are you? :p

If that's her body for the rest of the season then she can sit out as long as she wants lol.

OK they are going overboard with the fatsuit. You can see her face is still skinny but the fatsuit adds volume to the rest of her and the result just looks freaky.

I don't get it either. Every episode is basically the same. Don goes to work, meets a client, bangs someone, goes harm and argues with his wife.
