Mad Dog Multimedia fan

Does it actually live up to the specs its claimed to be?

Seeing as a repackage yate loon form xoxide is 28db and only moves like 40ish cfm.

Can anyone recomend a fan that moves alot of air and is relativly quiet ( i have 3 antec tricools on hi if that helps any)

I had a 92mm Mad Dog fan and it was decent. Ran quiet and moved enough air for the job.

Is it worth the 50$ i will be paying @ ccity for 5 of them?

47cfm @ 28dbA isnt that a little low for air moved at that noise level? or are these about the best fans for performance for noise leaning more towards lower noise?

What i really want to know is if those mad dog fans really move as much air as they claim @ that noise level. Yate Loon from what i hear is pretty much the best out there and they're only at the specs above. Anyone had any expireince with these fans?

MadDog is a repackager that I beleive is affiliated with CompUSA. Very few here will buy repack fans unless we know who actually makes it and what model it is. If you can get that info, we could more accurately comment on it. However, it is likely that the CFM is relatively accurate (+/- 10% which is the typical tolerance for cheap fans), as well as the current/power rating as those are all measureable only in one way. But the noise level depends on the method used. Remember noise is a square of the distance function - i.e. twice the distance 1/4 the noise. And then the character of the noise is just as important as it's level. Music at 80dB might be enjoyable, while fingernails on a chalkoard at 80dB could drive one out of the building. 😉

And apparently you'd have the privilege of paying twice the price to get it in MD packaging...

Of course there are fans with "better" noise:CFM ratio. You're the perfect consumer for the SilenX fans. SilenX has the BEST fans (on paper). How about 72CFM @ only 14 dba? Yes, you get 12 more CFM over the Mad Dog fan AND 10 less dba! Whoa!

If it was me, I'd go to petrastechshop.com and get Sanyo Denki 120x38 fans for the exhaust fans (if they'll fit). You'll need a fan controller for these. And I'd get the Yate Loon Medium speed fans there for the rest. I'd also rewiire the Y-Ls so they have only the standard 3-pin connector as they are well below the current limit on most mobos and any fan controller. Since most reasonably priced fan controllers have four channels or less, you could parallel two Y-Ls to one controller connector and you could adjust both simultaneously. Since they'll both be running at approx. the same speed, you only need to connect one speed sensor if needed at all. No matter what arrangement you end up with, a good fan controller will go a long way toward helping you to set up the best cooling possible. The best basic fan controller around is the Sunbeam Rheobus. But the CM Aerogate 3 is available at a good price if you want something fancier.

Well, he wanted awesome white paper specs. I delivered!

I really didnt want paper specs i just wanted to know if something lives up to its specs and what doesnt... Zepper i will probally get the Sanyo Denki (need to see if itll fit in my p180b) and the yates with a fan controller seeing as any other fans for that noise level and air flow are terribly over priced. thanks for the help

Petras also has the 3-pin Y cables for paralleling fans for only 99 cents. You'll need to remove one of the fan speed wires from it's shell as you only want one speed sensor of the pair connected anywhere.

Anyone one had expirience with this brand?
Yeah, they're a real company, unlike Rosewill! They're into all sorts of multimedia apps, not just computers, so they're probably a safe bet, if that's the route you want to go.

Supposedly, they make a lot of their own products (in China, not Cali, of course), but I was checking out one of their optical drives, and the UL cert indicated it was made by NEC, which is better than BTC, or whatever, but I'm sure a certain amount of their products are branded.

Don't ALL companies do this, though? 😉
