I have made several attempts to install the drivers for my Mad Dog Multimedia USB floppy drive, and every time my computer locks up on me. I have tried this on two of my three computers and neither will work. (my third computer is not set up for USB yet)
I can't even do a microsoft salute! (ctrl-alt-del) I have to do a hot reboot and start over... this was not fun any time and worst on my IBM ThinkPad.
All systems are running windows 98, and are P3s. My main system is an AOpen 700Mhz with a VIA Tech chipset. The IBM is a 500Mhz, not sure what the chipset is.
Any ideas.
Thanks for the help.

make and model of the mad dog floppy drive? Check your USB drivers in device manager. have a usb drive around that you can try installing. try the floppy on a Windows 2000 Pro or XP PC where the drivers aren't necessary and see if it works.

Mad Dog UF0002
USB Floppy Disk Drive

That is really all it says. I plan on buying the XP update in a couple of weeks anyway... I will see if I can get it to work on somebody else's machine. Thanks for the tips.

Is the drive USB 2.0 specific, or backwards compatible to 1.1? Can't imagine it requiring 2.0, but just a thought.

Are you installing the drivers first, rebooting, and then plugging the drive in?

I think it's actually this drive, with the UF0002 model number being the number of the NEC drive inside the case.

The directions say to put in the CD and then to plug in the drive... then to install the drivers. Yeah that is the drive.
The drive is supposed to be backward compatable and I did contact Mad Dog, they say I need to call them. Call them and pay big $$$ to talk to a guy who is going to tell me to do the same thing I tried 5-10 times already. grrr.
