Seems like every week Compusa has a mad dog power supply on sale. This ones seems pretty neat with modular connectors that are getting popular. Anyone know who makes these ones? It seems to have weird fans though. Some have 3-4 fans looking like 60mms. My convern might be noise levels will be high, but it says it can be adjsted. Half off AR seems not too bad and has 30amps on the 12v rail.

Never heard of Mad Dog. But I did have a laugh when I read that CompUSA is selling Athlon 64 2800+ and a mobo for $280.

This might be a very good deal so I don't want to threadcrap. I just want people to know that MadDog rebates can take an extraoridinary amount of time. There have been comments in the rebate thread about this, including mine. I had three MadDog rebates. One came within 12 weeks, the other two took 5 months with repeated phone calls (at least 6, I lost count), to get my money. I put these folks right up there with the infamous Soyo rebates.

It looks pretty neat and a lot cheaper than the X-Connects.... it's BTX ready as well and 5yr warranty... all exremely nice and $50 for a 500w PS is pretty good....

Ahh... don't really need a new PS so i'm gonna wait for a better deal.... hope the links help

I'd like to know the real manufacturer as well. Couldn't pass it up for the price and the first rebuild of 2K5 :).

P0ldy,

What's even funnier about the 2800+ and MB is that its Socket 754 ;)

I heard that the manufacturer is TTGI/Super Flower from another thread. These psus actually look a lot like TTGI/Super Flower.

Pic of the TTGI one

The connectors look similar, but the layout is different. Maybe they just happen to choose the same type of modular connectors, or they use the same OEM for the PS itself.

EDIT: Even similar pic

However, TTGI only has 450, 550, and 600 watt versions, no 500 watt like the maddog.

Maybe that's why the peak power on this unit is 550-watts? It didn't quite make the grade to be a 550-watt PSU, so Mad Dog rebadged them and is selling them as 500-watters (edit: speculation on my part, not fact).

I just have to warn, as did the above person, that you need to be extremely dilligent about keeping paper work and following up on Mad Dog rebates.

Dad has a Mad Dog burner - it's working great.

However, the tech in PSUs is far harder to reduce the cost. Stick with name brands.

TTGI makes the best budget power supplies. This doesn't look like any of them. Newegg is selling them mistakenly under the "Link Depot" brand name. Suggest picking up one there. Their 14cm versions are absolutely silent. The multi-fanned "super silent" ones are noisy. Directron has deals on them often.

The box states peak power rating of 550W. Even based on the color of the PSU - matches exactly to the one shown via the xoxide link posted. Either way, it certainly doesn't feel cheap :). Will be using it tomorrow once the new MB and PS arrive. As an FYI regarding the rebate - the rebate for this PSU goes to Niagra Falls - same location that the Super LANBOY rebate goes to... may not end up being a nightmare to get the rebate on the PSU <crosses fingers> :)

YMMV - You probably won't ever see your rebate on this deal, i'm waiting on my mad dog rebate from the 4x dvd-r/w drive several months ago.

no offence, but is it really that hard 2 follow? :D

Edited to appease your highness ;) Been a LONG night!

Only REAL difference between the 530W SF and the Mad Dog repack is the peak rating on the +5V line.

maxmyrebates.com, not sure which center. It's still "in its final stages" and has been since mid-october. I looked up the old thread and someone got theirs about a month ago, but im guessing most everyone else is still waiting.

after getting an antec power supply , I won't be getting anymore of these el cheapo power supplies :)

Although I have been lucky with cheaper power supplies so far, the quality, stability, quietness of Antec psu is quite impressive :)

I second the motion that MD rebates (Parago) are the worst. Still waiting on a MD DVD-R drive rebate from 15 weeks ago. Amazing how rebate houses lose so much mail.

mymaxrebates is Parago.
