I got a Mad dog DVD-ROM recently, supposedly plug and pray 😉..i prayed..dosent work!
The drive is detected as a DISK drive! Tried uninstalling and restarting. again detects as disk drive instead of DVD drive. This is a slave to a CD-RW. Driver not available on maddog website, supposedly it comes with windows xp and so they dont provide the driver. Any way out guys??

Try running the DVD drive as master and the CDRW as slave. There are no special drivers for DVD or CDRW - as far as Win is concerned, they're just another CD-ROM drive. The burning software and DVD software like Win DVD or Power DVD do the magic. Make sure they are jumpered properly. If you have them on an 80-wire cable (UDMA 66 and up) you can set both to CS (Cable Select) - master will then be on the end of the cable and slave in the middle - or you can set to Master/Slave. If 80-wire, make sure cable is installed properly - blue end to mobo. If you're using the old 40-wire cable, set one to Master and one to Slave. Some drives need to be jumpered to run DMA rather than PIO - running DMA and PIO drives on the same cable isn't a good idea.
