Hopefully this makes everyone scared and they stop eating beef... making it MUCH cheaper and save me money.

False hopes, I assure you. Even though cattle are sold cheaply and farmers are losing money, the price of beef at the supermarket has increased a bit.

I've been saying to myself that if they find another case of mad cow in the US, I would stop eating beef. Dunno if Canada is close enough. 😛

Just cook yer damn meat. Although medium rare = good.....

Actually, cooking it won't get rid of BSE. It's a mutant protein, not a virus/bacteria, so you'd still be screwed. 😉

Does cooking make the meat safe from mad cow disease?

No. The misshapen protein called a prion that causes the disease can't be eliminated by heat, freezing or irradiation.

Does America get an apology for being criticized for not importing beef when they were right all along from the Canucks?

I think a Canadian would literally implode trying to give America an apology or pay it a compliment.

That is a stupid thing to say.

The farmers know more about this issue than the politicians or you.

The cattle in North America are treated as one giant herd not bounded by borders on a map. All the cattle are inter-related. That is why the knee-jerk reaction by the Bush Administration was/is heavily criticized by the people that know the issue the best: Farmers.

Feeding unwanted cow parts to cattle for increased size and growth rate was a business move to increase profits for the major beef companies. Farmers knew it was a bad idea. That is how this disease is spread. And banning that kind of feed came too late, as it should have happened 20 years ago.

Now the cattle that had contaminated feed could have been shipped anywhere in NA and that is why strict records need to be kept. This issue should be dealt with logically and scientifically, not politically.

So Canadians don't owe the USA any apology. The USA owes Canada an apology for the knee-jerk, politcally motivated, lets protect the big cattle interests, reaction to the mad cow crisis.
