Not all, but yes. The catholic church's birth control policy is responsible for the over-population of Mexico and the resulting desperation which drives people to illegally emigrate to the usa.

So the Catholic Church forces people to have sex and have unwanted babies? Nice fail.

It prevents dissemination of contraception and it actively campaigns against abortion. People are going to have sex either way.

The birth rate is high in pretty much all third-world countries. This doesn't have that much to do with the Catholic church. People pretty much ignore the Catholic church when they feel like it anyway.

IMO one of the best paths out of poverty is to start with lowering the birthrate.

Lack of birth control generally correlates with poor education. However, the Catholic church's opposition to it doesn't help matters either.

what's so complicated about that? Everyone knows the path of poverty often starts with teenaged pregnancy. Abort it and everyone is better off. The teenaged girl, the state, and ordinary citizens.

There's an old saying, "Treat the illness, not the symptom."

If I get pink eye should I wear an eye patch (symptom) or use eye drops (illness)?

If poor education causes teenage pregnancy which causes poverty which causes dependency on the Catholic church which outlaws abortions which causes illegal immigration should we allow abortion (symptom) or improve education (illness)?

Sure, just like you want to prevent car accidents from happening, but once an accident happens, you still have to act.

Abortion opponents condemned the measure. “This is a tragic day for the democracy,” said Armando Martínez, the leader of Catholic Lawyers.

The fight has driven a wedge into this deeply Catholic society and shed light on the waning influence of the church in the wake of sexual abuse scandals involving priests. In January, church leaders could not stop the city assembly from passing a law allowing civil unions among homosexuals.

hopefully as the catholic church wanes in Mexico, the illegal immigration rate will also, as birthrates plummet.

Religion is a problem, but in general people are too indoctrinated to believe it's their right to have children and what they can take from them instead of thinking about whether they can give their potential kids a decent and comfortable life. Hardly anyone pays attentions to the obvious fact that nobody can choose whether to enter this world or not, no matter how shitty the circumstances.

I actually sort of kind of in theory agree with the op, personally knowing a Mexican family (in Mexico, not illegally living here) with something like 14 kids because the husband wants sex and can only have it if she is pregnant (or is going to be). I don't know to what extent that applies to Catholic Hispanics, but there are obviously some people out there stupid and susceptible to such worthless beliefs.

Why is India and China so overpopulated if they are not Catholic countries? Hell, Japan has a higher population than Mexico and it seems they barely have sex over there. Catholocism has NOTHING to do with it. And it most certainly has nothing to do with illegal immigration.

This problem extends far beyond Mexico and immigration. It involves overpopulation and a decrease in living standards worldwide (fewer resources per capita and higher prices for those resources).

Obviously, they have other cultural factors in India and China. That doesn't mean that the Catholic Church hasn't had a destructive impact in areas where it has influence.

Just vote to close the borders. Enough is enough.

Some prices may go up, but maybe when you go to the store, they will speak english!

It is actually more humane and more effective to work to reduce birthrates in Mexico.

Outsourcers do have a point that a low-paying job is better than nothing, but that condition only exists as long as there is surplus labor from too high birthrates.

Interestingly, Mexico has a historic 3% growth in population, which is very high.

I'm sorry but i dont agree. Any destructive behavior going on in Mexico has more to do more with its peoples own corrupted tendencies than with what they're taught by the CC. This is just more CC bashing, same as it's always been. I suppose Mexico's cartel problem is the CC's fault as well.

I pointed to the catholic church being very much against family planning. They are the leading group against contraception for crying out loud. No, I do not think the drug trade is because of the catholic church, that is because of economic factors. But in narrow areas like contraception, catholic doctrine has a real impact.

Against family planning!??! They are for family planning, however there version of family planning is completely different from yours. They believe before you engage in sexual behavior you should be a part of a healthy and loving marriage. Also, that you should also treat the sexual act with respect since it is what brings about new life. Its not just about busting a nut whenever the hell you want.

well, they are free to advocate such a method to their believers, but in reality they have imposed it across all of society by legal methods.

That's funny, I didn't know condoms where illegal. Unless they are illegal in certain areas. I'm not aware of any, but if you know, please let me know cuz that's news to me.

the catholic church makes it a sin to use birth control. for millions of people not sinning in the eye of God and their church is a big fucking deal.
