Macromedia Flash Player 5 - How To Eliminate?

This may not be the right forum for this but you guys seem pretty up on things. How the hell can I get my IE5.5 browser to stop, inhibit, eliminate, block, etc. Macromedia Flash Player 5 adds that keep popping up at more and more web sites (ZD Net as a good example). You can have the browser turn off animations, video, sound, and everything else but these damn adds keep popping up.

To make matters worse I now understand that there is now a "standard" for bigger pop up adds since banner ads have proved ineffective. If anybody has solved this problem or knows of a program that can (PopUp Killer doesn't since these flash adds aren't really popups)please let me know. They drive me buggy.

I don't know what shipped with IE5.5, but sounds like you'd have to uninstall Flash.

Well, mebe not. On the advances Internet options tab (IE5.01SP2), there is a checkbox for playing animations, as well as one for sounds and videos. I don't know if Flash is affected by these checkboxes.

I don't think uninstalling Flash will do any good. Instead of being annoyed by popup ads, you'll then be annoyed by the Flash installation wizard each time you encounter a Flash-enabled page or popup ad.
