Macro day

Neat pics, but subjects/angles/distance could use some adjustment.

Remember the rule of thirds. 🙂

Yeah, thats what I get when i get all giddy and rush it out of the box, throw a glass in the sink and start shooting like I am a VIP member of the paparazzi! 😀

Today should be a much better day.

Hahah.

I'm all about snapping away, too. Then I look at pictures a year or so later and think... "Why did I get a picture of this?" 😕 or "Why didn't I just take a few seconds and set this up better?" 🙁 ... but it still brings back the memories, so hey. 🙂

i have a sony F717...how can i learn to take pictures like that, especially the non-macro shots. i'm still using the dummy-mode. none of my pictures turn out professional-looking like yours.

Kind of offtopic, but what fstop did you use for your portraits? granted my lens isn't a macro, but I think i'm having DOF issues.

I'm still newb as to getting the right DOF/fstop for each shot. perhaps f/5.6 or even f/10? I don't have IS on that lens so f/10 is probably near impossible.

Some info for you:

For this picture:

http://www.is12.net/index.php?showimage=108

The shutter speed was 1/60 and the f-stop was 5.6 at ISO-400 with a 100-300 lens.
(I was at 300mm)

For this photo:

http://www.is12.net/index.php?showimage=121

It was the exact same settings.

For this one that I took this morning:

http://www.is12.net/index.php?showimage=233

1/200 at F-10

Most of my close up portraits are at around F5.6 with my 300mm lens, with my new 100mm macro I will shoot for F2.8 if possible...

Slide into Aperture Piority mode and take a few shots, then try it in Shutter priority of the same subjectm then on Auto. See if you can tell the difference.
Then look at the images you see the most difference in and look at their properties to see what fstop and iso was used, it will give you an idea of what changes do to the photo.
