The Macrium Windows PE rescue disc does not "see" external USB hard drives. I can make a disc image to the external drive with Macrium in Windows, but the rescue disc does not see the drive so I can't restore the image.

I'm thinking I might need to add some drivers to the rescue disc, but I'm not sure which drivers to add and where to add them. I tried to make a bootable USB thumb drive but Macrium wouldn't write to the device(Code 9 error) so I'm using a DVD. Can Macrium generate an ISO?

Hoping someone with more experience with Macrium Reflect than I have can point me in the right direction.

I know it works with USB 2 externals... didn't try with USB 3 devices yet.
Are you using a PE 4.0 rescue disk or higher?

I only have USB 2.0. Macrium will only make PE 3.1 on the system, I think.

All the USB root drivers are loading in the rescue disc, there are a couple drivers for the external disc, I wonder if they have to be loaded as well.

You need to load the additional usb drivers. I put them in my C: win systems directory so Macrium can find them.

It looks like most, if not all the drivers on the Macrium Windows PE disc are in the C:Windows\Drivers folder, although I'm sure many of them are standard on many systems. I'm not sure which additional drivers I'm supposed to add. The drivers on the Win PE list are the same as the drivers shown in the Device Manager. The two disc drivers for the external hard drive; disc.sys and partmgr.sys need to be on the PE disc? I was going to add drivers to the PE but I don't know how to see what's included and where to add drivers.

I think the laptop's recovery partitions may be part of the problem somehow.
