MacOS desktop folders gone

biostud

Lifer
I have a colleague who has just lost her all her desktop folders in macos.

She is running a Danish version of macos and at 14.47 today her "Skrivebord" (desktop) changed name to "Desktop" (from Danish to English), and in that process everything on her desktop disappeared.

If you look at recent files in Finder or Word, you can see some files, but they will not open.

She uses icloud, so I logged on to her icloud.com but it was nothing from her old "skrivebord"

I've used spotlight search to look for the folders - nothing
They are not in the trashcan.
I've tried Disk Drill to at least locate the files - nothing

So any Idea on how to move forward?
