Oh and I bet a child molestor at one time has used a Mac too. I guess that's not a surprise either.

A guy who drives a VW decides to put a Mac into his car and you assume they instantly go hand in hand.

You obviously don't understand demographics. You don't need a 100%/0% relationship to show coorelation. If 25% of brand X users also use brand Y, compared to only 9% of Brand X users who use brand Z, then you've shown a coorelation.

That's the reason that Cadillac Sevilles and Buicks Park Avenues are mainly marketed to older people, while Neon SRT4's and Cobalts are mainly marketed to the younger crowd. Sure, you'll get some old people who drive Cobalts and you'll find some young people who drive Cadillacs, but the rate of occurrance will not nearly be as high as old people>Cadillacs and young people>Cobalts.

It's about finding your target audience and marketing your product to their tastes. Everything isn't evenly distributed, you'll find that as a whole, groups follow predictable patterns.

I perfectly understand demographics - your association of VW + Apple is the weak link here. VW's are mostly driven by the SRT4/Cobalt SS type compact car crowd, or chicks. Simply put. It's not a Macintosh user crowd. I certainly don't see them offering iPod's with their vehicles like BMW does:

http://www.apple.com/ipod/bmw/ (or at least an easy way to hook it up)

Every VW owner I know of (girlfriend, her friend, and two ricer buddies) don't own nor care of Macs. If you want to pull up factual links with statistics proving your otherwise baseless association, please do so.

Hmm, Interesting

Volkswagen market director Karen Marderosian said that Apple and VW audiences are similar. "A group that embraces something different, simple and unconventional. We think this initiative represents a natural alliance of two like-minded brands," she said.

Bah, what would she know, she's only Volkswagen's market director.

Hmmm

Here's a guy on the Apple side of things that seems to think they're similar.

Oh, wow, look

It looks like a Mac fan draws a similar conclusion about the Apple/VW relationship.

Wait, here's another

The Long Island Volkswagen Club. I wonder what kind of computer VW enthusiasts use for their board?

Nah, there's nothing similar about them.

But wait, there's more!

?As with Volkswagen,? says Sculley, ?the people most likely to buy a Macintosh are those willing to try new things. They?re probably going to be younger. They?re probably going to be better educated. In fact, they fit very well with the demographics of the baby boomers. People have to readjust their thinking about what a product should look like, because things are changing so rapidly in society today.?

You don't see it for 2 reasons: you're blinded by ignorance and you'd rather close your eyes than see a reality that you're not willing to accept.

Yeah, you don't see VW's offering Ipods with their vehicles.

So I've showed high level people from both Volkswagen AND Apple Computer say in their own words the similarity between Apple and VW. Yet you still don't see it.

Are you an ostrich?

I'm not sure why you're being so willfully ignorant on this - there's nothing insulting about saying (accurately) that VWs and Macs are both marketed to, and embraced by, style-conscious young people, including metrosexual and gay men. My GF is a blonde Asian stylist, with a GTI and an iMac, as a matter of fact. VW and Apple clearly share an emphasis on clean aesthetics and a quality, er, user interface, so it's hardly surprising they have so many enthusiasts in common.

It's just silly to say that many people are cross-shopping Cobalt SSs and GTIs (I can't imagine more than 1 GTI driver in 50 would ever consider a Chevy), or that gay men aren't attracted to VWs. There's a reason 4 of the 10 cars on Car Talk's Ultimate Gay Guy Car List are made by Volkswagen. One gay poll responder said, in relation to the Cabriolet, "No need to slap a rainbow sticker on that baby. The car did all the talking for me!"

 Retarded.

It's not retarded, it's demographics. The marketers for those companies know who their loyal consumer base is.

Nah man...he's actually right. It seems to me that people who drive VWs tend to have a fondness for the Mac....and they happen to higher on the gay/metro approval scale then other vehicles and other types of computers. It has to do with style. Apple computers are much "prettier" than normal PCs...and there's something about VWs that tend to be more "feminine" than honda's, chevy's, etc...don't ask me why...they just are.

This is coming from a STRAIGHT VW-owner

Here's a pic (I own two actually, you can see the old blue Jetta on the street)

Car

Questions:

1) what does he do about power? doesn't he need a line conditioner? I mean power dips and spike would be havoc on the mac wouldn't they?
2) he start and stop the computer everytime he drives? that would be very annoying.

edit: n/m
he used this for the power:
http://www.monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=2720

A rough price list would have this install pushing $1200 easy. I'd go with an avic-n2. less hassle + gps.
