Macintosh & W2K Integration

Can anyone point me to instructions or give me some insight in how to join a Mac running OS X to a W2K domain? If I can't do actual domain authentication, can you point me in the right direction on how to simply grant the Mac access to a file share on a W2K server?

Thanks

You can't do the domain thing. However Microsoft produces a Microsoft User AuthenticationModule for Macs. (M UAM) so that Apples can log into w2k and mount SMB shares (windows file sharing.)

Also there is Appleshare support for W2k, but personally I prefer SMB.

It may be possible to do domain authentification in the traditional sense using the netinfo stuff, but I don't have a Idea how to do that.

Ya but it looks like you need to have Mac OS X server to do this... Hopefully not, but it seems so. And unless you have lots of macs it probably isn't a good idea to shell out that much money. 🙁

Just grant the domain user access like normal, then when they mount the volume they'll have to login as that user. It's not as seamless as from Windows, but it works.
