Macintosh Performa 200

My uncle was cleaning out his closet and found a Macintosh Performa 200 with keyboard, mouse and power cord. I plugged it in and turned it on, but all I hear, I believe, is the hard drive winding up and running. The screen is blank.

When I turn it off, for a brief moment there is a flash of white in the middle third of the screen.

Is there a trick to getting this to boot up after many years in a closet? Do I need to reset something or leave it plugged in for 24 hours?

BTW, that screen is REALLY small

What am I going to do with it if I get it running? No clue (except to post pictures here ).

Hahaha, I love those things. One of my friends actually wrote a report on that thing and turned it in for one of his college classes for the hell of it.

Power supply likely shot, as well, many of the older compact macs like that had problems with the flux capacitor for the monitor. Well, something like that anyway.
Our old SE (4MB/40MB and dual internal FDHD drives) had the monitor go like that. I intend to fix that and the Classic up sometime...next time we visit my mom I plan on nabbing them.

I wrote reports in elementary/jr high/high school on ours. We had the HP Deskwriter...Mac version of the Deskjet. Required this crinkly special inkjet paper. Thing was 300 dpi though!
Had HyperCard as well. They had some badass stuff back then.

It has been suggested on another board that I may have to replace the internal PRAM battery.

I remember how much of a pain in the butt it was to open these Macs, so screw that. Unless I can come up with a better idea, this Mac is going the way of the Dodo.

I have a 1.33GHz G4 12" and a 2GHz Core Duo MBP sitting in my living gathering dust. They both need some work done, and I just can't bring myself to do it, since I don't know what I would do with them then.

I actually would have a use for the MBP if you want me to take it off your hands (maybe the G4, too).

I take older, but still useful, hardware, repair them and give them to families who otherwise would not have a computer at all. That MBP fits the bill perfectly (not sure about the G4, but beggars can't be choosers). It is not a formal organization - I just do it ad-hoc - so there is no tax write-off, but if you want to get some credit towards getting into heaven or whatever, let me know.
