Machine Won't Power On. . .

I have an eMachines T-model machine and about 2 weeks ago it started sputtering while not turned on. (The power light blinked slowly and then sped up and it sounded like it was trying to turn on each time it blinked). This would happen for a few minutes then it would stop then start again after a few minutes. If I turned off the power strip it stopped, but when I turned it back on, it would start again. I couldn't get my computer to boot or power on at all. I unplugged the machine and let it sit for a while and when I plugged it back in, nothing would happen. I pulled it apart and checked all the parts but the mother board in my friends computer and everything works fine. When I pulled out the power supply there was a loose transistor rolling around in there. I thought that might have been the problem so I ordered a new power supply. (same as the one I had.) I tried the new power supply and my machine still won't power on. Sounds like it might be the motherboard, but wanted to know if anyone else had some ideas.

You tested everything else so it definitely sounds like your motherboard is the problem.

You are better off starting fresh. Get a whole new PC. I would avoid emachines if you can. If you are good with your hands I would say build it yourself. Though with prices being so cheap these days you can pick one up for a few hundred dollars. The only problem is the pre-built ones are always loaded with a ton of software you don't need and they can be more difficult to upgrade. Just my $.02

Did you try resetting the CMOS via the motherboard jumper ?

Make sure your EXACTLY follow the instructions as given in the motherboard/computers' owners manual !!!

Also, I agree whole-heartedly with all of Realtime's comments.

Good luck.
