I just went home for lunch to find that my machine will not turn on. It has done it intermittently for a week or so now, but if I wait a minute it would usually turn on and begin to boot - and would work fine.
Through all of my troubleshooting both the little light on the motherboard is lit, and the watt meter that came with my PSU is showing 10w when it is turned off (as it has since I bought the PSU a year and a half ago.
The power supply is a Thermaltake Toughpower 550w, I am running an 8800GTX video card, Q6600 processor, 4gigs of RAM, and an Asus P5N32-E SLI motherboard. It has run great up until about two weeks ago, when it started acting strange. When it did turn on, it worked perfectly no matter what I was doing, but now it will not turn on at all.
I have tried running the power straight from the wall, through the UPS, circumvented the power switch by shorting the two pins (to try to get it to turn on), replaced the power cable, and left it unplugged for about a half an hour and tried again. Nothing will get it to turn on.
I am thinking it is the power supply, but is there something else that can cause this? Maybe the motherboard?
I am going to pick up an Antec TruePower Trio 550 from work today to test when I get home, just looking for some ideas for other things to check if the new PSU does not get it to work.
Thanks.
