Machine down, looks serious! - 8RDA+

My 8RDA+ took a nosedive yesterday afternoon.
I started looking at it today, reset cmos, battery out, reset again, no post, no boot, no joy. 🙁

I took out the ram & put in a known good stick - same problem.
Took that ram & put it in another box, works good.
Put the ram that was in the dead box into a known good machine, no post - just beeps.
Took out bad ram, reinserted good ram in good box - post, boot, all good.

So, I have blown ram & possible blown mobo. Now I have to go & see when I bought this thing, maybe it's still under warrantee... (likely not).

Bummer 🙁

Hi, sorry to hear of the bad news.

How overclocked was the RAM? Can you RMA it? (I realize this doesn't help you in the short-term...but at least if you can get a replacement at minimal cost to you...you know? 🙂)

Also, what PS is in the box that blew up? A good, solid PS is the ANCHOR for all.

My 8RDA+ kicked the bucket when it was a few months old. Since then I've seen sprinkles of 8RDA+ failures. You might grab a Shuttle AN35N Ultra, they OC nicely and don't cost much, about $55 in the US at Newegg.

I lost an 8RDA earlier this year (those with expert memories may remember my posts about that 😉), possibly due to bad caps. There were no major signs (bulging or exploding), but I ruled out practically everything else, so that's what shall get the blame. Warranty was no longer in effect, so I ordered an Abit NF7-s and have been very pleased. Of course, the Shuttle board that mechBgon recommends would be cheaper, but possibly less fully featured; I don't know, just check it out and get whatever suits you (or get another 8RDA if your warranty is still good). Good luck getting a downed system back to crunching soon. 🙂

Well, I checked Newegg & found the Warranty expired a couple weeks ago (Newegg has 12 months).
It said I should contact the manufacturer, which I will do tomorrow. 🙁

Epox will most likely take care of the board for you if it is bad.

I RMAed a 8RDA+ last month, the board was WELL out of warranty and I was the second owner of it, but they took care of it.

I was very well pleased with the service I got from Epox, it took about 6 hours from the time I registered the board on the support site and reported the problem..bulging caps and a burnt ATX connector in my case, till I had the RMA #. The turn around was pretty quick as well, very good service, much better than I have had from some other hardware makers.

hope it works out for you.
