Machihe won't post after move

Just moved recently, after the move the computer won't post. I get a single beep, which sounds like the "OK" beep, followed a few seconds later by four short beeps. It is an Asus a8n5x board, which I believe is an AWARD Bios. I can't find a code for four short beeps on AWARD, but it seems it is indicating a memory issue.

I did the normal stuff - reseating video card, putting different single sticks of RAM in, and no dice. Removing memory all together or unplugging the power to the video card results in a different set of beeps.

I'm out of brilliant ideas. Anyone?

Reseat the CPU/cooler assembly as well. Reconnect ALL connectors. Moverment=vibration=loosening of anything.

The heavy mass of the CPU cooler can cause a problem in a move.

Try pressing delete key to enter bios check date and time if they are wrong reset date time to current go buy a 2032 battery and replace your old one. Some sata II power connectors come loose as well as sata II data cable they look plugged in but they are not.

I ship PC'S I build all over the county and pre shake, drop ,and vibrate test, all systems I build to make sure they survive shipping. I pack them get them ready to go and give them hell then I unpack them and test to see what may go wrong sata power coming loose is first sata data cable second, this includes sata combo drives.

Bios batt being dead loosing date time will cause no OS boot too. Hope this helps I will check into your beep codes later but you may be getting a code 14 not a code 4 if thats the case it may be ram, getting it to seat all the way can be a pain even after you get the locks to close press firmly down on either side of the ram and it may sit down a bit more crosshair boards had this as an issue and I dont thik it was limited to crosshair.

Please let us know if this helped at all if not happy to keep looking for issue fix.

Thanks for the suggestions, still no joy.

I reseated the cpu/fan assembly with no change. tried a bunch of different RAM, no change. I'll try getting a new battery next, although I don't really think that's a very likely possibility since it would be a hell of a coincidence if it died at the same time as I moved. I haven't got any SATA connectors and really, all the other connectors other than Mobo power could be unplugged and it should still POST.

This is really driving me nuts.

I'm hoping your bios batt is shot I've had pc's that would work forever til I unplgged them then no post due to dead bios batt, the time day would go to defaults. There is another possibilty a distasteful one and that could be a bad capacitor on the MB look for ballooned tops leaking yellow crap at the base or on the MB its self . Here is a link that can help you with pics ,symptoms, that your pc seems to have.

Please let us know how this turns out I hope you get to the bottom of this. Good luck

If you have a PS/2 mouse and/or keyboard, make sure they're plugged into the correct PS/2 ports, since the ports are function-specific.

I have a mouse/keyboard combo with a ps/2 and usb plug in and I double checked - plugged in correctly. Even if they were incorrectly plugged in, it should still post, just give an error message about no keyboard, right? I can't get video at all, monitor won't turn on.

I've seen ones that won't even POST with the plugs reversed, is why I thought of that. Here's another one to look at: see if you nudged the 115V/230V slider out of place on your PSU, if it has one.

It has one, I will take a look when I get home and report back. If that's it, I will hit myself in the head with a hammer. Numerous times.

Although seemingly the most time consuming, it's often better to start from Zero and rebuild the system:

1) Remove the motherboard from the case.

2) Push gently on all removable chips and jumpers on the motherboard.

3) Remove the CPU/HS/Fan and re-install.

4) Install (ONLY) a video card and a single memory module.

5) Put an insulating material underneath the motherboard and connect the 20/24 pin and the 4/8 pin power connectors (plus video power if necessary). Disconnect all other connectors (except maybe the Power Switch connector). Test.

6) If this test fails, try a different video card, memory module and power supply if possible.

7) If the system shows signs of life, re-install the motherboard and install the other components one at a time, testing after each is added.
