Macbooks Adopting Intel SSD?

I was looking at the specs of the new Macbooks and they are wonderful except....the $600 premium for a Samsung 128gb SSD.

I was curious if anyone knew when they would adopt Intel SSD since the performance levels are so much better in every aspect.

Also, does anyone have any experience replacing HDDs in Macbooks? Is it possible to replace the current HDD with an Intel SSD?

I think the Intel SSD's cost more than the Samsung ones.

Edit: and replacing HDD's in the older Macbooks isn't hard at all. Basically pull out the battery, unscrew the memory slot cover and pull a tab out. The MBP's were more involved and warranty-voiding.

The new Macbooks have been redesigned to allow easy access to HDD and memory under the battery.

I had to replace a failed HD in my white MacBook and from removing the battery to putting it back in and firing the machine up honestly took under 5 minutes. My co-workers were impressed.

Yes, on various sites it shows the HDD on the left. This looks incredibly easy to swap out. As well as Memory.

Good news!

I didn't realize that Intel SSDs were so expensive. On Newegg there are 128gb Models for under $400.

It would be nice later on down the road to switch out for a fast SSD.

Anyone have word on Quad-Cores? With the Intel Nehalem shrink this might be possible?

So many questions I feel, this is going to be my first Mac and I want to get it right the first time...I still have until the first of the year..

Well since we just had a refresh on the Macbooks and Macbook Pros the next possible refresh would have to be the Macworld convention in Jan '09, although some may argue that you won't see real refreshes then on the mainstream 13" and 15"'s but more or less the removal of the $999 Macbook and revamp of the 17" MBP.

Quad-cores on notebooks could be a while...I'm not very familar on Intel's development, but if Apple doesn't get them I doubt other manufacturers would get them.

FYI SSD's are still for early adopters. They have various problems and the failure rates & longevity statistics are still kind of a question mark, despite manufacturer's claims.

I'm hoping by next summer these things will be affordable and the performance boost noticeable. I'd love to have the new mbp with one of these.
