What are the differences between current and last gen mbp.I am getting a very good deal on the last gen macbook pro, abound 4-500 less than the base model of current gen mbp.

also what do people think about matte vs glossy

the previous gen Mbp had half the VRAM at the same price point, as well as hotter (slightly) running processors, and no multitouch trackpad

yep. ive got the last gen mbp...also note that the f1-12 function keys are different now...the new gen ones have volume controls as well as a remapped layout, the old (mine) gen ones dont. specs wise, its just a cpu bump, vram bump (video card is the same - 8600GT), and the multitouch trackpad.

as for matte vs glossy, people like glossy because it LOOKS brighter and the colors are more vivid. but matte lets you see the true colors and it still looks pretty damn bright (all mbps have LED backlit screens so its wayyyyy brighter than most other laptops you see). personally, i would get matte because you cant see glossy screens in the outdoors (too reflective). but to each his own i say...you have to go in the store and try it out for yourself...honestly thats the only way.

personally i would hold off and get the last gen model because the mbps will get refreshed AGAIN in the summer...

using a current gen mbp. i feel glossy is great. i went from a first gen mb to this thing, so i knew what i was getting myself into. i'm also a student, so i spend most of my time indoors anyway, so glare has never been an issue for me. just my opinion - i don't think there is a wrong choice.

Preview gen Macbook Pro here, and I love mine. If I had a deal like you are mentioning and didn't have my current machine, I would jump on it. Definitely. You'll miss Multitouch and maybe a few other things, but nothing that is really going to hinder your OSX experience.
