2010 Macbook Pro i5 and volume in Windows 7 x64 goes from low to almost non existent. It's exteremey low to start, but after connecting then disconnecting headphones it only gets lower. I found plenty of posts regarding this issue around the web, but they were mostly from 2009 and had no real solution other than Apple won't/can't fix it.

I don't remember this being the case when I first installed 7 on here, but I could be mistaken. Regardless, it's MUCH loader under OS X.

Is this just another one of those Windows on Mac annoyances i have to live with, or is there something I can do about this?

Yes, its one of those windows mac annoyances. It will always be. There is no fix, there never has been nor will there ever be.

What's weird to me is that when I had Windows on my old MacBook, I always noticed that XP was louder than OS X.

Forgive me if this is a given, but is this a Boot Camp instance? Or some sort of VM? I don't have a suggestion as I'm still a relative newbie to macs... Ive only had my air for about 6 months, and I will be trading that in for a slightly older MBP that has a faster processor, larger screen, and more memory. I run VMs on this thing relatively regularly and it bogs like crazy with only 2GB in it and a 2.13GHz core 2 duo. I was thinking of dual booting when i get the MBP, however if there is this issue, i may go with parallels or virtual box instead for my windows needs.

I run Windows via Virtualbox on my MBP and it does the job beautifully. It's pretty neat to be able to swipe your screen to the right have a full screen Windows 7 show up. I haven't checked for any volume issues, I really only have Windows to use Gameranger and play Age of Empires II with my Windows-using buddies, but the game immediately crashes upon launch and freezes the whole VM.

I have Virtualbox running as well, but I've only noticed the volume issue with the bootcamp copy of Win 7. The issue might be present while running under Virtualbox, but I haven't noticed it, so I'm inclined to say it's not an issue there. The only resolution I've found is to put on my HD 595's when the volume is too low. I assume external speakers would work fine as well, but I'm rather limited for space and I prefer to remain untethered from tables and such.

I think I'm going to sell this anyway. It get's too hot under load for my tastes. The entire body is a giant heat sink, so when it get's hot, my palms are being slowly cooked. Are scorched red palms a requirement to be in Mac club?

My Air gets quite warm when running an XP VM in virtual box as well.
