Macbook Pro trackpad... sub par?

I love the MacBook Pro except for its trackpad. I think my hands hit it when typing (palms) and it seems slow and unresponsive.

Does anyone with a MacBook want to comment on either of those two issues?

it is a bit on the large side and I too occasionally hit it with my palms. But as far as speed goes, I have it turned up in system preferences and it seems fine for me.

You can disable the trackpad when typing. In the System Preferences, go to Mouse & Keyboard > Trackpad and activate the second checkbox from the bottom (should read something like "ignore accidental trackpad-input")

no, it is hardware driven, thus must be supplied by the manufacturer, some sony laptops have this feature.
