I have a MacBook Pro (MacBookPro5,3), and I'm going to upgrade RAM.

Where is a good spot to buy RAM, other than through Apple? Trying to save some money. Any recommendations would be great.

Just bought some Crucial DDR 3 PC8500 from 2x4gb from Amazon. Its 84.99

If you have a 5400rpm drive I suggest you also pick up the Seagate Momentus XT. I purchased this for both the Macbook Pro's I'm giving my cousins.

Found it. Great reviews. Thanks for the suggestion.

everyone here is right! newegg/crucial for the ram - its around $80 shipped for 2x4GB DDR3-1066. i highly recommend the seagate momentus XT drive. its definitely worth it. initially, there were spindown/freezing issues with the older firmware, but now all shipping drives are fine. i was running the same setup in my old macbook pro and now the current 2011 one, and its fast as heck. :)

I have one of the Dell OEM'd Momentus 7200.4 with the click-pause issue that was never resolved. By now I guess this drive is reliable but I'm gonna avoid Seagate drives, esp. since the XTs have had their share of complaints. I'm not necessarily blaming Seagate, but I'm just hoping SSDs drop significantly in price or that WD can release a hybrid drive too.

Another thumbs up for newegg and/or amazon for your memory needs.

Rule #1: Never buy replacement parts from Apple!
Rule #2: If you feel you MUST buy from Apple for any reason, immediately see Rule #1 :)

owc just rebadges other brands - think of it as somewhere between amazon and apple. not a good place for $$ but they have some unique products. just $$$$

Be a little careful of the Momentus drives. Some people have had issues (myself included) trying to get these hybrid drives to work in MBP's.

I am not sure if my issue was related to the Momentus XT or just with my machine (because i tried other standard drives) but I was never able to successfully install OSX on the drive.

I have heard great reviews from those who got them working, but do a little research first.
