So my 7 month old macbook pro is been great, except for one little thing. After 7 months of daily usage the trackpad is on the fritz, if i hover over a link it will randomly click it. its like the trackpad is stuck being held down but this only happens %50 of the time. its hard to explain but the trackpad will randomly grab something, i can't get it to stop and its extremely frustrating.

How do i go about this with apple? do i just take it to the local apple store and tell them? do i need ant apt? All hardware is covered under the 1 year warranty right? also i did not buy apple care and im thinking i should get it before its to late (is it too late?)how does apple-care work? can i buy it off ebay and just register it with my mac and be good to go? How much is it and do you think it would be a good idea to get for peice of mind? i plan on keeping this notebook for years since it was so damn expensive.

thanks in advance,

If you have an Apple store nearby, go see a Genius. You won't pay anything if it's still under the 1-year warranty.

And you can add AppleCare at any time while you're still under warranty... I'd do it online or at the Apple store, not on ebay.

you have a 1 year warranty so definitely take it into the genius bar at any apple store. as long as your 1 year warranty isnt over, you can purchase applecare so you will get an extra two years. lets say you bought your laptop in december 2009 - your 1 year warranty will run out in december 2010, so if you buy applecare and have the warranty extended, it will run out in december 2012 instead.

Stupid question, but is tap to click turned on or off?

how can i tell? also don't i want it on so i can use the trackpad to click?

The setting is in your System Preferences -> Trackpad. Even if you turn it on, the physical click will continue to work.

does this look right? i've never changed any settings since i got it.

Try turning off "Tap to Click". The physical click will still work. I'm thinking it's your finger hitting ever so slightly that's causing it to look like ghost clicks. This is why I never use that feature on laptops.

If you turn that off and it still happens, then definitely take it in to AppleCare.
