MacBook Pro (Core Duo), Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10, external USB HD

Anyone booting their MacBook (or MacBook Pro) from an external Ubuntu 7.10 drive?

Does it not boot because of Boot Camp or Apple-proprietary EFI?

Tricks to get it working as an alternative to OS X?
