my beloved WRT54G (linux version 4) died last night. Had to run to TigerDirect to replace it (refurbed at $79).

Installed a WMP600N PCI card in my PC as well.

My wife and I share a 6000K comcast feed. Filesharing is handled by direct gigabit ethernet.

I can powerboost to 12-16k on speed tests.

should I have bought something else?

I usually research first, but this was like a water heater going out on me. I don't plan on returning this for credit if I chose wrong.

I am sure the wireless card is fine, but I wish i had a better selection of routers locally.

So you bought a replacement WRT54G or a WRT320N? Little confused what router you actually bought as a replacement? If it was a 320n, that's a nice router and should work nicely for you. A WRT54G is a little outdated now but is fine for general use but is limited to only G wireless.

I personally have never had much luck with Linksys routers and Apple products. Don't know what the problem is, but it is there.

I used Netgear routers at home before I moved in with my roommate and he has a Airport Extreme, those work fine. He had DLink routers before, and they worked for him.

If it is working, it should not be a problem. My problem with Linksys always came from not being able to actually connect to the darn things.

Well the WRT320n supports ddwrt. The hardware isn't bad, just the firmware/software it has in it. Flash it with ddwrt or even tomato and never have to worry about it again.
