Macbook or X60 Tablet?

Trying to decide which direction to lean... Currently have a T41 and i want something faster, specifically for photo editing and such. My T41 works great, it just can't handle the sheer # of NEF files i need to browse through after a shoot. Other than speed, i've been VERY happy with my thinkpad, it really is built like a tank.

Macbook - Would integrate nicely with my Mac Mini desktop, can run XP/Vista if needed, I prefer the OS, very nice screen but low resolution. The PRO would suit my needs better, but its nearly twice the price and I don't really need the vid card, just the larger screen.

X60 Tablet - Very light/small (fantastic for travel), superb battery life with 8-cell, tablet would likely help with my ongoing wrist problems, small screen (12.1", but high resolution SXGA+)

Lack of an optical drive on the X60 isn't a big deal for me as i rarely use mine (in the 3 years i've had my T41, i've used it 3-4 times).

So, i know different animals, but what do you think?

You know, I feel knid of silly asking this, but what exactly is SXGA+? That right there is also why I do not like intel's naming scheme. I have no idea what a T2250 is... I do however know what a Core 2 Duo @ 1.83 GHz is..

Anyway, I seldom hurt for higher resolution on my macbook, especially considering that 1280*800 on a 13" is pretty much the only option. I wouldn't mind a higher res, but like I said, Im not really hurting for it.

Ok, after some googling, i found out that it is 1440*1050. So you are also looking at the difference between widescreen and non... and if I had the choice, I would go widescreen. I used 4:3 for years before I got my macbook, but since getting it, i really have a hard time considering using a 4:3 as my primary monitor. The widescreen aspect just makes laying out windows much easier in my opinion.

If the stats come down to roughly the same, at roughly the same price, I would recommend the thinkpad though. Tablet is nice for photo editing, and may help your wrist problems.

With the whole resolution thing...

I love widescreen, I'm using a 20inch widescreen and I think it's great, but at a resolution of 1280x800, you're not necessarily benefiting all that much. If the resolution would be higher on the widescreen, there would be an obvious advantage, but 1280x800 isn't a whole lot of space. Macbooks have their advantages, but for your purposes, aphex, I'd recommend the tablet.

I'm a little biased, I've recently purchased a used M200, which has SXGA+ 1440x1050 resolution, and I can safely say that it is a great resolution for a tablet. It takes a little while to get adjusted to the small pixels but there's a ton of screen real estate, making up for the lack of widescreen. (FYI: A 4:3 tablet will closely resemble the dimensions of a 8.5x11 piece of paper)

The X60t is the cream of the crop for tablets right now, and if you're really set on buying one, that one is definitely the one to get. Although, I would make sure you test the tablet out (doesn't necessarily have to be the x60t, it could be any tablet) to make sure you know what you're getting.

Macbook, i ditched my X31 for a 12" powerbook and just replaced it with a macbook.

But if you still want the X60T i can check what the IBM employee price is.

The concern of weight can also come into play though. The macbook is heavy. I have one and I love it, but it's a solid weight. If you have a wrist problem that is truly an issue, and would also be traveling so much that a few extra pounds are too much to handle, the X60 tablet would be something you would have to consider.

As far as the macbook screen being low resolution, I've never thought that. It's just right in size , and I'm sure many people would agree with that. Widescreen is awesome too. I personally love the macbook :)

Both lappies are good choices though.

thanks for the opinions thus far.... i just don't know, as much as i love the macbook, the lower resolution and higher weight might just get annoying to me... My T41 is great, but at times, i wish it were even lighter...
