Macbook --> mini dvi to hdmi cable --> Onkyo 606 --> TH50PZ81 plasma screen

I just want to get a mirror of what I see on my Macbook screen out put to the plasma but I get a very centered view so I am missing the top, right, bottom and left of my Macbook display 🙁

I've messed about with over scan, mirroring, 50/60Hz, 'extend' screen so that my desktop is expanded to the new screen but it isn't working 🙁

I haven't tried going directly to the plasma without the receiver in the way yet though. I'll have a go if theres no other way. I have to take the screen off the wall and it's a bast removing it off the wall and I have this 'safety' bar that goes across to lock the screen to the wall mount but it's a complete BAST to get it back on. I'll have a go at this some other time but hopefully you guys can work a way.

I've turned off 'auto' and set it to 'through' on the 606 and no luck. Cheers guys!

are you sure the plasma can take a 1080p signal from a computer? and did you go into system prefs >displays>check the resolution for the screen. i would extend desktop to the plasma and drag the bar to the plasma in arrangement. also I think the mabook can only do a 1080i but it shouldnt matter

It's a native 1080p display and I am checking the manual as we speak.

I have extended it and it still wasn't showing a native resolution on the screen. I was given the 1080i option on the macbook. I changed it to 1280x720 and I still wasn't getting a 1280x720 image extended on to the plasma screen. I was missing desktop space all over the shop.

It take this by HDMI:

525 (480) / 60i ! !
525 (480) / 60p ! !
625 (576) / 50i ! !
625 (576) / 50p ! !
750 (720) / 60p ! !
750 (720) / 50p ! !
1,125 (1,080) / 60i ! !
1,125 (1,080) / 50i ! !
1,125 (1,080) / 60p !
1,125 (1,080) / 50p !
1,125 (1,080) / 24p !

I'll try again and set the tv to not zoom and see what it does.

Cheers!

Indeed.

But to be honest all I care about is I get a somewhat mirror image/ extended image that I can full screen on the plasma screen so I don't lose 1/4 of the image all around 😛

what version of osx? when I was on 10.4.9 I had issues outputing to my 1080p monitor. Now that I moved up to 10.5.5 its fine. Ohh and a mirror image wont give you 1:1 pixel mapping on the big screen because it will retain your macbook's res.

ohh and i know its a pain but I would remove the receiver from the equation until you get it sorted

I'm on 10.5.4.

Mate, cheers for the help. I'm can now get a full movie out to the tv but it doesn't look like it's 1080 resolution (not too fussed if it is i or p), it looks alot smaller then when I last remember what 1920x1200 resolution looked like! I use to run a dual 24" and 23" setup both running 1920x1200. I know 1920x1080 is less but not THIS much less?!

But the main thing is I can output to the screen and view movies in full screen on the 50" 😀 Cheers mate.

The stupid tv was zooming in for some rubbish reason! Doh!

Cheers for the link and for the help in the thread.

I've only had the Mac for about a year and haven't really delved much past the surface 😛. I'm a pc man of about 13yrs 🙂

no problem 🙂 I'm a pc guy since a 386 but I work on macs so I crashed into them now I really like them except for gaming 🙂

I'm just getting into plex myself. Go to the apps page and install a ton of shit its all free streaming pictures music videos movies all with the one interface. Only weird thing is its controlled via arrow keys

Mirror mode may not fill the tv screen since the notebook resolution and aspect ratio are different than the "mirror". I just activated mirror mode on my 1080p LCD and the sides are "pillar-boxed" with overscan checked in display preferences, and there is letterboxing on all sides if overscan is de-selected.

edit: sorry, I didn't give my configuration: mbp dvi out -> dvi to hdmi adapter -> hdmi cable -> samsung lnt5271f

Aight.

I thought it would just squeeze the 1280x800 res on to the plasma but apprently not 😛

The extend works but I'm not entirely sure what resolution the plamsa is getting from the receiver. It says it is 1080p but it definately doesn't look much more then say 1450x900 or so. I guess I can load up some 1920x1200 wallpapers and see what they look like on the plasma screen.

Extend and clamshell mode both send 1080p for me (1920x1080, (not interlaced), 60hz) setting in display preferences, with pillarboxing all around with overscan unchecked and a perfect screen with overscan checked.

I use my mbp 50% htpc and the rest surfing the web from the sofa. If you don't yet have the apple bt keyboard, I have to recommend it.

I see that my Macbook is outputting 1080i now. Still NO WAY does it look like 1080 resolution to me.

I'll have to play with it later but been too busy to mess about with it.

Clamshell mode? Maybe the MBP can do that or send out 1080p but my white macbook only sends 1080i. I'm getting 50Hz, I should try changing it to 60Hz.
