So I bought the UX31 for the girlfriend as a Christmas/birthday gift. She was ecstatic to receive it, and really loves the laptop.
However, the trackpad is atrocious. I read the reviews and figured, how bad could it be? It's bad. I want to throw the laptop at the wall after 5 minutes, it's that bad.
I updated the drivers, and even turned off all of the multitouch gestures. It's still terrible. I will move my finger, and the pointer will stop halfway through, forcing me to start moving my finger again. Sometimes, it will drag items that I never intended it to. It will click in very odd locations. If I tap with one finger, it will work ok sometimes, but then right-click the other times. Turn tap to click off and use the faux buttons? It does the same thing, interpreting left clicks as rights. It took me forever to get a youtube video started, and to be able to select a higher resolution HD option from the little popup.
I read the reviews and knew there would be an issue. But this is BAD. I figured, touchpads have been in laptops for almost 2 decades now, it's likely the multi-touch features people are complaining about. No, it's atrocious.
I don't want to buy a Macbook Air. But at this point, I just might. Or buy a cheaper, thicker, heavier, but more powerful laptop. But the GF is loving this form factor. Frig, I do too. I want to keep the Zenbook. But not with this touchpad.
Am I doing something wrong here? Maybe I don't have the latest driver update? Maybe it's a defective unit? Are they all like this?
I'm more upset about this because it was supposed to be a gift. If it was for me, I wouldn't be so bothered.
