I am looking to bump my MacBook 5,2 from 2GB to 4GB RAM.

I was looking at OWC and found this.

I looked at Fry's and found this.

Do they both work in the MacBook 5,2? I just do not know enough about Mac RAM to be sure.

Also, if they both work, is it worth the extra money for the more expensive sticks?

Can we be more clear as to what a MacBook 5,2 is? I think that is the latest model, but google/wikipedia is finicky here at work.

Lets assume that it is the latest, then it can support up to (I want to say 8GB RAM, but absolutely 4GB) 4GB RAM, DDR3 SO-DIMMs at 1066 I believe. Any RAM that meets those specs should work. You needed to be careful with RAM on PowerBooks (mostly to do with CAS and timings), but nowadays, just get what feels good.
 
oh yeah, nearly all DDR3 sodimms will be fine. if you have the integrated battery macbooks, you can go up to 8GB (2x4GB), but if your macbook has a removable battery, then you can go up to 4GB (2x2GB), but some people actually got theirs working with 6GB (4GB stick, 2GB stick).
 
I have used Corsair, Crucial, GeiL, PNY and AData in my systems, they have all been fine. That RAM linked should work just fine.

Well, it appears that my MacBook takes 200 pin RAM and this RAM that I bought (see above) is 204 pin, so it does not fit in my machine - I tried (even though, once I pulled out the old RAM it was obvious that the new RAM would not fit - unless I am missing something).

Any other suggestions?

Is the 2GB ram in your macbook, two 1GB sticks or just one 2GB stick?

Oh dear, I must have steered you wrong. I mean that sincerely, I thought that the latest generation (now the last generation) macbooks moved to DDR3 already. I was incorrect. You need DDR2-800 i believe, I hope that you can get a refund on the RAM.

How about this? That is exactly what I would go for if I were in your place. DDR2-800, 2*2GB and a brand that I have used before and trust.

from now on, on the Apple menu choose About This Mac, then More Info...

System Profiler will launch. Click on Memory in the sidebar. This will tell you what type you need.

also, Mactracker is indispensable.

God, their website says that it had a standard memory return policy and I couldn't be bothered to actually read the entire policy, or you know... send it in to the manufacturer. /parody
