Mac with Express Card-Internet from an RV

My parents have sold the home and are RVing it. They need internet. They have a cell phone contract. They have a new Mac laptop(unfortunately do not know the specifics) that has an express card slot and USBs but no PCMIA slot. What is the best way for them to get internet? If their only option is by cell phone, is it still at 14.4 speed or has it gotten better?

Thanks as always for all the help.

There are phones that connect to the EVDO network that can tether through USB ports that should work with a MAC. EV speeds are in the DSL range of 400-800kbps down and usually about ISDN uploads around 128kbps.

Outside of the EVDO coverage area speeds are typically about ISDN both ways. Sprint and Verizon offer this service in North America.

Depending on where they're RVing, they may very well be able to snare an unsecured access point. Otherwise, check cell phone coverage in the area and use a USB cable (or Bluetooth) to connect the phone to the Mac and have it behave as a modem. Speedwise, in more rural areas you're likely to get about 16KB/s from the basic digital network.
