mac vs. PC

i'm sure this has come up a million times, but i'm too lazy to search...

basic simple question:
MAC VS PC? what is better, what is faster.

If you place a P4 1.7 GHz next to a G4 what do you think would do better?

Personally I hate macs, i think they're designed for 12 year olds who like colorful desktops and bright ugly computers with fancy things like a see through monitor or keyboard or something... but inside its a toy!

what do YOU think?

A friend of mine has a G4 and he's into graphic design and music recording/mixing. I like the software that he uses. We recorded a demo using cheap amps and keyboards and a Mackie mixer and it came out surprisingly well. As I understand it Macs are better for this sort of thing (?)

i've seen it said a 100 times that mac's are better for graphics and that kind of stuff, "obviously i use a mac, i'm a newspaper editor!"
WHY OFCOURSE? i mean personally i've seen more compatability on a PC, more power as you've got more software to edit stuff with, and much faster RAM, processor, BUS and graphics devices speeds, so why do people prefer the mac sometimes?
I think its cause they're jsut easier.
But they're not even multi-tasking as well as the PC. its like you're copying something and you're stuck watching this copy, can't click on the desktop or minimize or anything. its just annoying!

Or at all, for that matter. If you've worked on a MAC you know that multi-tasking is basically non-existant.

I own two macs and 3 pcs. I like all of them.

At work, I administrate a network of macs, pcs, and IRIX machines.

Each one has it's strengths.

The only strength a MAC has is it's hardware. The OS sucks and effectively kills the entire platform.

i had a Mac once, it was a LCII (16mhz), so obiously my celeron beats the snot out of it... it was faster than my 8mhz 286 though,
